摘要： A container sealing apparatus 10 comprises an electrically conductive linearly displaceable cutting member 14 operable to cut a portion 18 of sealing material from a web 16 and an independently linearly displaceable transfer member 42 comprising an electrically insulating material and extendible relative to the cutting member 14 to transfer the cut portion 18 of sealing material to an open top of a container 12 to be sealed. An induction coil 52 produces an induction field 54 for heating the cut portion 18 of sealing material, either directly or indirectly, by induction heating to seal the cut portion 18 of sealing material to the open top of the container 12. The linearly displaceable transfer member 42 holds the cut portion 18 of sealing material against the open top of the container 12 during induction heating. A field concentrator 56 is provided to concentrate the induction field 54 in a desired region away from the linearly displaceable electrically conductive cutting member 14 and other electrically conductive component parts of the apparatus 10 to optimize the induction heating of the cut portion 18 of sealing material.

The apparatus includes upper and lower reform tools, the upper reform tool having a tab relief feature and local scallops at each end of the tab relief. When reform tools move together for reforming, the tab relief feature is positioned over the tab fold and the scallops at the ends of the fold. As a result crushing and fracture of the tab during reforming is avoided.

摘要： A method of constructing a closure and applying it to a container to provide a hermetically sealed, tamper-indicating package which can be easily opened without danger of contaminating the container contents by fragmentation of the sealing element. The sealing element is formed as a laminated liner disk haivng an inner foil layer and an outer tough thermoplastic layer. A heat sealing layer allows the liner disk to be hermetically sealed to the container by induction heating after the closure is attached to the container. A frangible opening line is created by melting through the thermoplastic layer and heat sealing layer to the metal foil layer.

摘要： A system for assembling flexible end closures for containers, the closure itself including a peelable sealing membrane, with a folded pull tab, and a plastic overcap separably combined as a single unit for application to the container. Apparatus cuts the individual sealing membranes from a continuous web for deposit thereof on individual holders which vacuum retain the membranes during movement through stations which fold an integra pull tab in overlying relation to each membrane for subsequent reception within an associated overcap applied to the holder along the path of movement thereof, the combined membrane and overcap ultimately being discharged for later application to a container as a closure therefor. A central manifold controls air flow to and away from the individual holders so as to selectively retain and discharge the closure forming membrane and overcap components.
