    • A sheet interleave system for a reciprocating mold plate patty-forming apparatus includes a hopper for holding sheets, a shuttle, a sheet transfer device, at least one precise position controlled motor, and a drive train. The shuttle has a sheet-holding frame that is slidable between a sheet receiving position and a sheet dispensing position beneath knockout cups of the patty-forming apparatus. The sheet transfer device has a suction device for gripping a sheet from the hopper. The suction device is moveable from a position to grip a sheet from the hopper to a position to place the sheet on the sheet holding frame. The drive train is driven by one or two precise position controlled motor. The drive train is mechanically connected to the carriage and to the sheet transfer device to impart controlled motion thereto.

    • A scissor-action rotary cutter for high speed sheeting from a continuous web is described. Conventionally, the rotary knife is offeset to provide a square cut for, e.g., a constant knife velocity following web speed, and making one revolution per cut length, so that the sheet length equals the knife circumference. A knife offset compesensation is necessary to achieve a perpendicular transverse cut for a selected cut length that differs from that for which the knife offset is predetermined. The invention provides a cutter section that is automatically positioned for the offeset adjustment, if any, required when the sheet length is entered. Positioning is preferably accomplished by a gear motor, encoder, coupling and lead screw connected between the cutter and the web feed section. The knife offset compensation is determined as a function of the knife offset and the difference between sheet length and knife circumference.

    • During winding of coils having a non circular shape, the length of wire required per time unit to obtain a faultless winding varies periodically. If the winding rotation speed is high and if the ratio of the sizes of the coil to be wound is unfavorable, the periodic variation of the length of wire required is so high that it is not possible, with the known wire brakes, to obtain a winding quality sufficient if the wire is to be treated with care. These opposite objectives are reached by the invention by means of an adjustable wire brake which is comprised essentially of a plurality of braking strings (21) wound into a single layer around the wire (8).
