    • A cartridge type ball bearing arrangement for rotatably supporting a shaft or journal within a housing is disclosed. The cartridge is fitted within a clearance bore in the housing and is subject to translational motions along its rotational axis with respect to the surface of the clearance hole to compensate for thermal and pressure gradient expansion and contractions of the shaft over a temperature range and for machining tolerance limitations. O-rings located in grooves in the surface of the clearance hole or in the surface of the cartridge provide a zeroclearance fit between the cartridge outer wall and the supporting surface of the clearance hole under normal radial loads thereby maintaining the spin vector of the rotating shaft in precise alignment while accommodating differential axial motion of the shaft with respect to the housing.

    • A method for operating an electromotive drive of a textile machine, comprising a contactlessly mounted rotor and catch bearings. The rotor rests on one catch bearing prior to initial operation, and is spaced therefrom by an air gap during stationary operation. A control device allows the rotor to be held in a force-free floating state during stationary operation. The method executes the following steps: (a) inputting an output signal from the control device for maintaining the force-free floating state during operation; (b) calculating the air gap by evaluating the output signal; (c) comparing the calculated value with predetermined limit values; and (d) deactuating the drive when the limit values are passed. The control device comprises a position sensor with at least one sensor coil, at least one actuator coil, a position controller and an integrator, at which the output signal is obtained to determine the air gap.

    • In a shaftless spinning rotor assembly wherein the spinning rotor is the rotor of an axial field motor, an improved transfer of power and improved running properties are attained by forming the stator windings in channels which extend substantially radially in the stator core and are enclosed over at least a portion of their length by magnetically conducting material. As compared with known gap windings, the windings can be placed in multiple layers while at the same time avoiding marked graduations in permeance and in the specific current density so that eddy currents in the rotor can in turn be reduced and rotor heating remains within reasonable limits. The stator is preferably formed of multiple component parts which allows optimized selections of materials.
