    • In an internal combustion engine with a reciprocating movement which uses gasoline, diesel fuel or other fuels to generate forces when fuels attain explosive combustion, the piston is pushed in the inner cylinder. The motion of the piston with the reciprocating movement (straight motion) is transferred to a crank shaft having rotation motion, or the rotation motion of the crank shaft is transferred to the piston having straight motion (reciprocating movement). By such transfer, in order to use in compressed feed for fluids, when the connecting rod is provided with a universal joint type and a ball joint type, although the relative position errors and right angle are staggered within a given range, abnormal friction, noises and vibrations never take place. Accordingly, pollutions such as noise, vibration and noxious exhaust gases are dramatically reduced, fuels are surprisingly and significantly saved, and the life of the machine is doubly increased. Further, the piston is divided into a crown part and a skirt part, and the crown part is used with a piston ring in a conventional way. However, the skirt part is attached to a metal roller mounted on a metal bracket, or a metal plate or spring, and the piston is provided with an expansion property. Accordingly, the gap or clearance between the cylinder and the piston is completely removed, and maximum smoothing motion takes place when the piston is moved up and down. By such smoothing action of the piston, a state without tilt and slap is realized. Vibrations and noises due to tilt and slap are completely removed.

    • An emission control system for an internal combustion engine, including a dual induction system adapted to provide to said engine a relatively low power fuel-air mixture and accomplishing thereby a substantially emission free exhaust, as pertains to the fuel alone. The dual induction system allows the engine piston speed and its associated crank shaft speed to be increased to a point beyond the known mechanically allowable limits of piston reciprocating (sliding) speed, to recover the potential engine power lost to the use of only the relatively low power mixture. The engine includes also, a roller crosshead assembly enabling the engine to operate indefinitely at such power and speed increases, and as limited by sources other than the crosshead alone. The dual induction system includes a cold-air intake system adapted to supply to the engine, all of the unheated air inducted by said engine, and a hot intake system supplying all of the fuel in a highly heated state and a small percentage of the total inducted air, equally as highly heated. The roller crosshead assembly includes a roller mounted upon the connecting rod wrist pin and a pair of opposed roller guideways supported in the engine cylinders by a cup-shaped guide member. The roller rolls upon the guideways, eliminating lateral axial movement of the piston upon the cylinders during its inward and outward movement, and permitting thereby, indefinitely long operating periods at the increased engine crank shaft and piston speeds. The roller crosshead assembly enables the engine lubricating oil to be excluded from the combustion portion of the engine''s cylinders and thereby eliminating the exhaust emission arising from combustion and/or partial combustion of the oil during combustion of the fuel.

    • A piston adapted to carry a cam follower and particularly for use as a ball or roller piston in a hydrostatic pump or motor, comprises a piston body having a seating at one end, an insert of low friction material which is shaped to provide in the seating a bearing for the cam follower, and means for securing the insert to the piston body. The piston body preferably has a recess or aperture communicating with the seating and the insert of low friction material extends into or through the recess or aperture to lock the insert to the piston body.
