    • An on-demand exact registration form web perforating apparatus is simple yet effective, and can operate at high speed and has a long life. A form web is moved in a predetermined path past first and second rotatable continuous circumferential perforator wheels mounted on substantially stationary axes and spaced from each other along the predetermined path and in alignment with each other along the path. First and second anvil cylinders are spaced from each other along the path for cooperation with the wheels, each cylinder having an interrupted circumference including a raised portion and a depressed portion, and a movable axis about which the cylinder rotates. The cylinders are rotated about the axes synchronously with the web movement, and the cylinders may be selectively moved toward and away from the perforator wheels from a first position in which the entire circumference of each anvil cylinder is spaced from the web and does not cooperate with a perforator wheel, to a second position in which the anvil cylinder circumferential raised portion may engage the web and cooperate with a perforator wheel to effect perforation. Typically the form web comprises a plurality of business forms.

    • Apparatus for drawing newly-spun and dressed glass filaments from a bushing comprises, in combination, a rotary cutter constituted by a blade roll with radially directed blades projecting from its surface and a second, back-up roll having a resilient surface, said rolls being mounted with their axes substantially parallel and with at least the tips of the blades in contact with said resilient surface to define a cutting zone for the cutter, together with an auxiliary, independently driven start-up roll, variable speed drive means for accelerating said auxiliary roll to a surface speed at least equal to the surface speed of the back-up roll under production conditions, and guide means operable to divert a bundle of filaments being wound on said auxiliary roll to the surface of the back-up roll and thereafter into the cutting zone of the cutter, whereby the filaments are cut into staple fibres. A method of manufacturing staple fibres based on the use of above apparatus is also disclosed.

    • An apparatus for removing coupling element residuals from a coupled pair of slide fastener stringers comprises a scraper roll drivable for continued rotation and an idler tumbler roll around which the slide fastener stringers travel for rotating the tumbler roll. The tumbler roll has a radial wing which when the tumbler roll is rotated, brings the coupling element residuals thereon into contact with the scraper roll while it is revolving so as to scrape off the residuals reliably. The tumbler roll has pawl means for engaging the fastener stringers at a predetermined position thereon so as to place the coupling element residuals on the tumbler wing. The tumbler roll is rotatable in response to engagement of the pawl means with the fastener stringers being fed. The apparatus of one embodiment includes stop means for temporarily stopping rotation of the tumbler roll and guide means for guiding the fastener stringers properly onto the tumbler wing.

    • An apparatus for feeding a web of material, such as a plastic film or paper, from a supply roll and for cutting it into sheets of desired length to be used in a package wrapping machine or the like. The apparatus utilizes driven opposed rolls to withdraw the web from the supply roll and to advance the leading section of the web onto the end of a driven conveyor which retains the section by vacuum. A cutter mechanism is driven in timed relationship to the web movement to slash the web transversely as it passes from the rolls onto the conveyor. The transverse slashing provides a serrated cut, leaving tabs which connect the leading section on the conveyor with the remainder of the web. Then, in further travel, opposed high speed rollers engage the leading section on the conveyor to tear the tabs and thus separate the leading section as a wrapper sheet of required length.
