摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricating oil having lubricating properties suitable for various applications of lubricating oil, excellent in balance of lubricating properties such as low-temperature fluidity, compatibility with a metal and heat resistance, comprising an ester of alicyclic alcohol, and to provide a method for producing the ester of alicyclic alcohol.
SOLUTION: The invention relates to the lubricating oil comprising at least one of the esters of alicyclic alcohol obtained by esterificating (A) at least one monocarboxylic acid selected from a group comprising a 2-18C aliphatic linear saturated monocarboxylic acid, a 4-18C aliphatic branched saturated monocarboxylic acid, a 4-9C acyclic saturated monocarboxylic acid which optionally have a 1-4C alkyl group, and (B) a divalent 3-12C alicyclic alcohol, wherein the monoester content in the ester of alicyclic alcohol is less than 5 wt.% and the acid value of the ester of the alicyclic alcohol is less than 0.1 mgKOH/g and the iodine value is less than 2 g/100 g.

SOLUTION: A lubricating oil composition comprises 20-60 wt.% of a polyphenylether having 3-6 aromatic rings in a molecule and 1-4 alkyl groups in a molecule or a hydrocarbon-substituted derivative thereof (A), 80-40 wt.% of a diphenylthioether (B) represented by formula I and if necessary additives including an abrasion resistant agent, an antioxidant, a viscosity improving agent, a pour point depressant, a corrosion inhibitor, a metal-inactivating agent and the like. The compound A is preferably a dialkyl-m-phenoxyphenoxy-o- biphenyl represented by formula II or the like (R1 and R2 in formula I are each hydrogen or an 1-24C hydrocarbon group; and R in formula II is an 1-24C alkyl group).

CONSTITUTION:A neopentyl-type complex ester (molecular weight: 270-5,000, acid number: 1mgKOH/g or less, hydroxyl number: 40mgKOH/g or less) which is prepared from a mixture consisting of 60-97mol% (preferably 70-95mol%) tertiary fatty acid of the formula (wherein R represents 1-6C alkyl; and R and R each represent 1-2C alkyl, provided that the total carbon number of R, R and R is 6 or less); 3-40mol% (preferably 5-30mol%) 4-8C dibasic acid (e.g. succinic acid) and neopentyl polyol is employed as a base oil for a lubricating oil which can be advantageously employed as a base oil for a high-- performance engine oil.
