    • The present invention refers to use of dextran sulfate, or a pharmaceutically acceptable derivate thereof, for manufacturing of a medicament for treatment of Instant Blood-Mediated Inflammatory Reaction (IBMIR). In addition, the invention refers to the use of dextran sulfate, or a pharmaceutically acceptable derivate thereof, for manufacturing of a medicament for treatment of morphological disruption of cell transplants and graft-rejection of cell transplants caused by IBMIR. The invention may be applied to patients suffering from type I diabetes, in which porcine islets of Langerhans are transplanted in their portal vein. Administration of dextran sulfate according to the invention inhibits and prevents rejection and destruction of the transplanted islets and makes normoglycemia in the patients possible.

    • A system and a method for studying or predicting the interaction between a lung and an aerosolized agent. The system comprises an aerosol generator (10) sealingly connected to an exposure arrangement adapted to provide a transport aerosol flow from an aerosol holding chamber of the aerosol generator (10) to a flow junction; and an exposure aerosol flow from the flow junction for distribution to an exposure organ with breathing capacity thereby a providing a residual aerosol flow transported away from the flow junction. The exposure arrangement further comprises a flow rate monitoring device located upstream the flow junction for monitoring the transport aerosol flow, a device for measuring the aerosol particle concentration located downstream the flow rate monitoring device, and optionally a flow control function for controlling the transport aerosol flow. Using the system for predicting the interaction between a lung and an aerosolized agent minimizes the loss of the agent.

    • A magnetic bird screen for an opening of a steel structure such as a bridge or the like includes a magnetic sheet sized to cover the access opening and at least partially overlap the steel structure at the opening so that the sheet is magnetically secured to the steel structure. The sheet has a plurality of spaced-apart holes sized sufficiently large to permit the passage of air and water therethrough and to be used as finger holes for installation and removal and sized sufficiently small to prevent the passage of pigeons therethrough. The sheet can be folded or rolled upon itself so that the sheet remains secured at one side of the opening or the sheet can be entirely removed when it is desired to have access through the opening.

    • Oligonucleotide structures are provided that are capable of forming more stable bonds to a lipid membrane and thereby generate an improved control of the process whereby oligonucleotide linkers are introduced to lipid membranes. Methods of forming lipid membrane oligonucleotide attachments are provided including lipid vesicles. The oligonucleotides typically comprise at least two hydrophobic anchoring moieties capable of being attached to a lipid membrane. Said moieties may be attached at the terminal ends of an oligonucleotide or, in the case of a first and second strand forming a duplex, at the same terminal end one of the strands other end not being part of the duplex leaving it free to hybridize to additional strands. The lipid vesicles attached with the oligonucleotide can be used in biosensors and may contain membrane proteins.
