    • A system for monitoring and controlling negative pressure wound therapy includes a microcontroller that controls means for maintaining reduced air pressure based on a pressure signal from a pressure sensor. The means for maintaining reduced air pressure may include a vacuum pump and valve. The system includes a mobile communication device having a microprocessor, touchscreen display, data storage device, GPS module, and wireless transceiver. The microprocessor generates control signals sent to the microcontroller to control the means for maintaining reduced air pressure to provide continuous or intermittent reduced air pressure. The microprocessor monitors the pressure signal and generates a closed-system alarm, leak-detected alarm or open-system alarm. The closed-system alarm indicates an air pressure leak rate below a closed-system threshold. The leak-detected alarm indicates an air pressure leak rate above a leak-detected threshold and below an open-system threshold. The open-system alarm indicates an air pressure leak rate above the open-system threshold.

    • An inventory management system manages information regarding medical items dispensed for medical treatment of a medical patient. The system includes a first computer, an inventory access control system, inventory sensors, and inventory applications. The inventory access control system receives credential information from a user seeking access to an inventory space in which medical items are stored, and controls access to the space. The inventory applications process the credential information to determine whether the user is authorized to enter the inventory space, and communicate with the inventory access control system to permit user entry when the user is authorized. The inventory sensors sense the removal of medical items to be dispensed to the patient, and generate item usage information indicating the identity and quantity of the items removed. The inventory applications also generate a record indicating that the items removed from the storage structure have been dispensed to a particular patient.

    • Healing of wounds is promoted by covering and contacting the wound with a dressing that has been infused with a suspension of a starch hydrolysate containing ascorbic acid and other components, such as collagen and alpha-tocopherol acetate. In suspension, in the infused dressing or carrier the combinations avoid the tendency of the components to separate thereby causing them to remain in suspension and to form a stable gel or dressing. Combining the starch hydrolysate and other components for delivery via the infused dressing allows for a more stable suspension for delivering the components to the wound. The infused dressing also permits the inclusion components that would be otherwise difficult to combine in a suspension. Wounds, in particular those occurring in the skin as second and third degree burns, stasis ulcers, trophic lesions, such as decubitus ulcers, severe cuts and abrasions which are commonly resistant to the natural healing process, may be treated with the infused dressing of the present invention.

    • A method for the prescription and administration of health care resources including identification of the significant epochs of health care by service, i.e., care events for a given clinical pathway, based upon the specific use or function to be performed in each care event and outside the context of the use location of the care event, identification of the resources to be brought to bear in the performance of each care event and outside the context of the use location of the resource. Events to be associated with a given pathway are selected from a clinical pathway. Those resources to be associated with a given care event are selected from a pool of events. A bill of materials is created and becomes a prescription for a treatment of a patient employing the given clinical pathway.
