    • A high hat stand for a pair of cymbals, including a support for a stationary cymbal and a vertically slidable coaxial operating rod for a cooperating movable cymbal. A spring returns the movable cymbal off the stationary one. A foot pedal operates the movable cymbal against the stationary cymbal. The connection between the foot pedal and the movable cymbal comprises a rotary member connected to and movable by the foot pedal and connected to move the operating rod for the movable cymbal. From the axis of rotation to its point of operative connection, the lever arm of the rotary member connected to the foot pedal is longer than the lever arm of the rotary member connected to the operating rod of the movable cymbal. The rotary member is defined either by a lever or a wheel. An additional swingable arm may be connected to the axis of the rotary member to enable the axis to swing with respect to the movable cymbal operating rod when the connection from the rotary member to the rod swings through an arc. This reduces the effect of lateral bias on the rod due to swinging of the lever as it rotates around its axis.

    • A support and stop (15) for the upper cymbal of a high-hat cymbal, wherein the upper cymbal (5) is supported on a longitudinally movable supporting rod (9) by means of a bolt (16) with an upper holding nut (17) threadedly secured above it and a lower holding nut (18) threadedly secured beneath it. The upper and lower holding nuts (17, 18) have respective upper and lower terminal openings passing through them which have internal diameters approximating the diameter of the supporting rod (9) and being smaller than the internal diameter of the bolt (16). A clamping screw (8) passes through the upper holding nut (17), pressing the supporting rod (9) against the internal walls of the upper and lower terminal openings and canting the rod (9) in the terminal openings for locking the supporting rod (9) to the support (15). The cymbal (5) passes through a felt ring (4) which is secured to the exterior of the bolt (16) by the lower holding nut (18) below and by a locking nut (1) above, which locking nut (1) is located beneath the upper holding nut (17).

    • Pedal-type drum beater chain noise is reduced by preventing the chain (28) from separating from the sprocket (20) as the sprocket tilts. A pedal-type drum beater includes a pedal (30) whose heel is pivotally mounted at (33) to a support (31) and whose tip (29) moves up and down. A drum beater pad (19) on the end of a shaft is, in turn, supported on a horizontal shaft (15) which also carries the sprocket (20) for pivoting the shaft (15). The chain (28) trained on the sprocket (20) is joined at (43) to the tip (29) of the pedal (30) for transmitting pedal tip motion. The sprocket (20) has an arcuate operative surface (21) which is defined around a center of curvature of that surface. The sprocket (20) is affixed to the horizontal shaft (15) at a location on the sprocket that is to the rear of the center of curvature of the arcuate operative surface, with respect to the drum, and that is also slightly above the center of curvature, with respect to the pedal. Also, the sprocket arcuate operative surface (21) extends over only a short arcuate length. As a result of this shaping of the sprocket, the arcuate operative surface tilts upon depression of the pedal, and the chain links do not become detrained and retrained on the sprocket teeth as the sprocket pivots, thereby avoiding generation of chain noise.
