[Class 9 (i)] A centrifugal drive for clockwork projectile fuzes comprises a secondary centrifugal weight adapted to assist the initial action of a primary centrifugal weight by pushing the primary weight outwards but reaching the limit of its travel before the primary weight. As shown, the toothed segments a , which are pivoted at a and drive the clockwork mechanism by way of the toothed shaft f, each carry a primary centrifugal weight b. About each pivot a there is also mounted a lever c which carries a secondary weight d and is provided at its opposite end with a projection e by means of which each lever c bears against the respective primary weight b when the operating mechanism is in the condition of rest. When the projectile is fired, the levers c, owing to the secondary weights d, press forcibly with the projections e against the weights b and assist the outward movement of the latter until the weights d reach their extreme positions. When this position is reached, the weights d remain stationary and the primary weights b continue to move outwards, the projections e no longer contacting therewith and the effect of the auxiliary force of the secondary weights d on the primary weights b ceasing.
