摘要： The present invention provides a catalyst composition prepared by combining (A) at least one salt and (B) at least one organic sulfur compound. The salt includes a metal cation of a metal selected from the group consisting of copper, nickel, cobalt, manganese, molybdenum, zirconium, titanium, vanadium, niobium, palladium, and platinum and an organic counterion to the metal cation, derived from at least one acidic organic compound selected from the group consisting of those with an approximate pKa value relative to water of at least about 3. The catalyst compositions provided by the invention are useful for the selective chlorination of aromatic compounds such as toluene and o-xylene.

Such compounds demonstrate high rates of catalytic turnover in comparison with other Ru catalysts known in the art. Moreover, the catalysts are highly stable, and readily suited to attachment to a solid support via the anionic ligands. The invention also pertains to methods of producing the catalysts, and their use in catalyzing olefin metathesis reactions.

摘要： Aromatic compounds such as toluene and o-xylene are chlorinated in the presence of a catalyst combination prepared by combining (A) at least one salt comprising a metal selected from the group consisting of a Group 4–12 metal, a lanthanide and an actinide; and a counterion; and (B) at least one organic sulfur compound, preferably phenothiazine-N-carbonyl chloride. The catalyst combination may include reaction products of (A) and (B). Under these conditions, production of the p-chloro isomer is optimized. In some embodiments said counterion is an organic counterion derived from at least one acidic organic compound selected from the group consisting of those with an approximate pKa value relative to water of at least about 3.

摘要： Hydroformylation of alkenes to aldehydes in the presence of a rhodium complex catalyst is improved by the addition of a novel bidentate ligand of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.1 ' and R.sub.2 ' are organic radicals selected from alicyclic, aliphatic and aromatic groups of which at least one is preferably substituted with at least one electronegative moiety and the methylene groups are present at the trans-2,3 positions on the norbornane moiety. The invention also provides a novel method for producing the bidentate ligand and novel intermediate phosphine oxide and phosphinous acid compounds.

摘要： Stoichiometric and catalytic chemical transformations may be carried out in solution using novel fluorous multiphase systems (FMS). The term "fluorous" is defined as a carbon-fluorine bond rich organic molecule. The FMS consists of a fluorous phase containing a fluorous solvent, typically a fluorocarbon or a fluorohydrocarbon and a reagent or a catalyst containing a sufficient number of fluorous moieties to render it preferentially soluble in the fluorous solvent without impairing the ability of the catalyst or reagent to be effective in the reaction and while maintaining the reaction in a liquid or fluid phase. The nonfluorous solvent may be any suitable organic or nonorganic solvent(s) with limited or no solubility in the fluorous solvent that is effective for dissolving the reactant(s) and most desirably, for separating the resulting product(s). Typically, such solvents have a Hildebrand solubility parameter of at least about 18.0 MPa1/2. Appropriate fluorous moieties are linear, branched and carbocyclic fluorocarbon alkyl chains with high carbon numbers. FMS reagents and catalysts can be prepared by (1) fluorination (i.e., replacement of C--H bonds with fluorine); (2) fluorofunctionalization, e.g., the attachment of fluorous moieties to the reagents or catalysts; or (3) by total synthesis. The invention is useful in separations technology and in catalyst design and synthesis.
