    • An electrical connector includes a dielectric housing mounting a plurality of terminals. Each terminal includes a blade portion terminating in a distal contact end formed by dual spaced-apart cantilevered spring arms with mutually opposing contact portions defining a conductor-receiving mouth therebetween. The spring arms are cantilevered at opposite edges of the blade portion and are offset on opposite sides of the blade portion. A plurality of passages are formed in the housing and into which the blade portions of the terminals project. Each passage includes opposing side walls generally parallel to the blade portion of the respective terminal in the passage. Each side wall includes a laterally outwardly offset portion to accommodate one of the offset spring arms at the distal contact end of the terminal.

    • An electronic assembly including a pair of complementary connectors (28,40), each mounted to respective circuit boards (22,34) and means for preventing damage to pin contacts (32) of one connector (28) when the connectors (28,40) are unmated, the connectors (28,40) and their respective circuit boards (22,34) defining first and second subassemblies. The pin saving means includes at least one pair of stop means (50) associated with one subassembly and adapted to cooperate with stop engaging means for the other subassembly. The stop means (50) includes a lower portion (52) extending in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the associated subassembly and a lower portion (54) extending outwardly from a leading end thereof and having a stop surface (56). The upper portion (54) is adapted to be moved from a first position wherein the stop surface (56) engages the stop engaging means to a second position wherein the stop surface (56) is removed from the stop engaging means. In its first position, the upper portion stop surface (56) is located a selected distance from stop engaging means to permit the first and second connectors (28,40) to be partially unmated and the contact surfaces of the pin contacts (32) to be withdrawn from the receptacle contacts (46) while preventing the connectors (28,40) from rotating a sufficient amount to damage the pin contacts (32). The first and second connectors (28,40) are completely separable upon moving the upper stop means portion to their second positions.

    • A dual printed circuit board module having two printed circuit boards mounted in an inwardly facing relationship on two thermal frame members that also function as structural and enclosing members. A connector mounted between and at one edge of the thermal frame members serves to establish electrical connections between the circuit boards and a backplane circuit panel to which the boards are to be connected. A flexible interconnect circuit, located near the same edge of the boards as the backplane connector, is used both to connect the boards to the connector and to provide board-to-board connections independently of the connector. This arrangement greatly facilitates assembly and testing of the module, reduces signal path lengths, and enhances the structural and thermal integrity of the module.

    • A robotic tool for mounting an edge connector on a mother board, and mounting a daughter board to the edge connector. The mother and daughter boards are of the printed circuit board type, with the edge connector including a plurality of terminals mounted in a socket for receiving an edge of the daughter board at a first angle, and for electrically mating with the edge of the daughter board when the daughter board is rotated to a second angle. The tool includes a programmable robotic arm selectively moveable to a predetermined position on the mother board, and having a free end with a pair of end portions moveable toward and away from each other. A pair of jaws are mounted to the end portions, for movement therewith. The jaws have first outwardly extending connector engaging portions and second inwardly opening daughter board-receiving recesses. The same jaws are used to mount the edge connector to the mother board, and to insert and rotate the daughter board for mating and locking with the edge connector.
