摘要： A gas plug retention and removal device (40) for a gas operating system (20) of a firearm (10). The gas operating system (20, 20') can include a gas block (30) comprising a front end (31a), a rear end (31b), a gas block bore (34) defined between the front and rear ends, and at least one cam engagement surface (58). A gas plug (26) can be removably received in the front end (3 Ia) of the gas block (30) for at least partially sealing the gas block bore (34), and a cam lever bail (42) can be pivotally coupled to the gas plug (26) and include at least one lever arm (52). The at least one lever arm (52) can be pivotally connected to the gas plug (26), be adapted to engage the gas block (30), and have at least one cam lobe (50) formed therealong. The at least one cam lobe (50) can engage the cam engagement surface (58) of the gas block (30) as the cam lever bail (42) is pivoted so as to disengage and facilitate the removal of the gas plug (26) from the gas block (30) to provide access to the gas block bore (34).

摘要： A piston assembly is provided for a gas-operated firearm of the type having a chamber and a barrel. The piston assembly includes a gas expansion housing and a piston mounted within the gas expansion housing. An annular recess is formed in the outer wall of the piston to receive exhaust gases diverted from the barrel upon firing of the firearm. At least one longitudinally extending groove extends from the annual recess to the head of the piston and forms a pathway for diverting the exhaust gases to the head of the piston. During firing, pressurized gases are diverted into the annular recess and expand longitudinally from the annular recess to the piston head, whereupon the pressurized exhaust gas drives the gas piston rearwardly along the housing.

A touch sensor (12) is located on a front surface of the firearm trigger (10) and has a conductive touch pad for sensing contact by a user of the firearm. A touch sensing electronic circuit is coupled to the conductive touch pad and trigger and prevents the firearm from discharging if contact with the conductive contact pad is not sensed. Additionally, the safety system can be configured to conserve battery power of electronic firearms by providing a signal to wake-up the system controller.
