Plug cocks; locking valves; dirt, preventing lodgment of.-Consists in means for locking cocks, particularly burner valves of gas brackets, chandeliers, gas stoves, and other gas fixtures, when they are turned off. A spring-controlled lever 7 is pivoted between lugs projecting from the plug 1 of the cock, and is bent at right-angles to pass through a slot 11 in the operating-key 5 of the cock. The amount of movement of the plug 1 is limited by stops, but, when the plug is turned into its closed position, the end 16 of the lever 7 is forced into a segmentally cut-away portion of the casing 2, and locks the. plug. The plug is unlocked by means of a finger-piece 12, or by jaws a of a gaslighter A, which engage a strengthening-rib 13 at one end of the lever 7. In the modification shown in Fig. 7, which is particularly adapted to gas stoves and burners, in addition to the locking- lever 33, which is released by the handle 36, the plug is further locked by slightly rotating the handle, causing a projecting pin to engage with a slot 28 formed in a projecting annular rib or flange of a socket end 26 of the operating-key 24. A projecting guard is arranged above the key to protect it from dust and dirt. In the modification shown in Fig. 9, the plug is both operated and locked by a bent spring-plate 53, one end of which is riveted or otherwise secured in a slot 51 in the plug 50, while the other end is provided with a finger-piece 56. When the cock is turned off, the upper end 57 of the spring-plate engages with stops on the casing and locks the plug.
