摘要： A system and method to provide a display for a client terminal for a television communicatively coupled to an interactive video casting network are provided. The display can present indicia related to events available through the client terminal. Operational features of a client terminal can also be displayed. User preferences can play a role in the appearance and/or content of the displayed indicia. Indicia can appear in the form of text, graphics, or sound and be related to any events such as, but not limited to, news headlines, e-mail and voicemail announcements, miscellaneous reminders, program alerts, and emergency alerts. With the use of the display, information may be displayed therein at least alternatively to being displayed on a screen of the television, thereby reducing crowding on the screen of the television.

A display unit displays a user interface including a focus area intersected by a first axis. In response to detecting activation of a button on the remote control device indicating a selection of a filter, the first sequence of cards is filtered according to the selected filter to produce a second sequence of cards. The second sequence is then displayed along the first axis, with one card being displayed within the focus area.

摘要： Localized content and corresponding applications can be provided to thin-client interactive television terminals. Localization may be performed on general data feeds by applying, at a portal that receives the data feeds, localization parameters specified in a plurality of channel configuration records. The local content is then provided to their corresponding head-ends. From the head-ends, the local content and its application are carousel broadcasted to thin-client terminals via different data pipes. A viewer can tune to a synthetic channel having the local content and application via familiar television metaphors, such as from a remote control or from an electronic program guide. The viewer's interaction with the local content can be limited to a walled garden.

In specific embodiments, the user-specific information can be used to facilitate purchasing items electronically, for example. In other embodiments, the user-specific information can be used to complete a call for assistance in case of an emergency, select favorite material for viewing, or control access to content, such as adult entertainment. For example, in select specific embodiments, the user-specific information can be used for restricting access to sexually explicit material over electronic delivery media. In various specific embodiments, the user-specific information can also include information about persons other than the user, to which the user has a particular relationship. For example, information such as a mother's favorite flower, or a child's clothing size, and the like may be stored for a particular user. In specific embodiments, the present invention provides a remote access device that is configured to accept a smart card. The smart card has user modifiable information relevant to completing transactions for goods or services, for example, stored thereon. In various specific embodiments, a second plurality of user-specific information may be received and stored on a smart card, providing user interactive controlled modifiability to the information on the smart card.
