[Classes 52 (iii) and 52 (v)] In collapsable tables, tea wagons, display stands, &c. having the top or tray 1 pivoted to two or more legs 9 and adapted to be turned from the horizontal to the vertical position for collapse or for use as a fire-screen, a coupling element slidable upon the insides of the legs has a latch-forming block 13 engageable between parallel lugs 4, 5 outstanding from the table top to retain the top in the horizontal position. The coupling element has finger-pieces 12 engaging the sides of the legs and a slot 14 through which passes the bolt 8 forming the pivot pin on which the top 1 rotates, and is lifted from the position shown until the block 13 is above the lugs 4, 5 to free the top. Where the table legs are provided with a core or tie rod 9 the pivots 8 are displaced sidewards clear of the core and two slots 14 may be provided in the coupling elements so that they can be used at either end. The table top may be made of synthetic resin with the lugs 4, 5 integral therewith. More than one tray may be pivoted on the legs. A stop 15 limits the rotation of the top.

    • 421,233. Brackets. COOK, J. W. D., 29, Kenmure Mansions, Pitshanger Lane, Ealing, London. Jan. 10, 1934, No. 946. [Class 52 (v)] In display stands, correspondence trays, &c. of the kind described in Specification 299,109, [Class 52 (v)], having upper and lower arms e , e2 slotted to engage rotatably a pillar a with annular grooves a , curved bearing surfaces f are provided extending inwards from the open end of the slot in the upper arm and adapted to make contact with the exterior of the pillar. The material which would otherwise be removed to form the slot in the upper arm may be utilised to provide these surfaces. The bearing surfaces in Figs. 1 and 3 are formed by slitting and bending down the edges of the slot s to form flanges f with diverging portions f. The flanges f are passed across the grooves a and the arm then lowered to engage the shoulder a of the pillar. A web e secured to the tray &c. d connects the upper arm el with the lower arm e2 the slot of which has a dependent curved member g engaging the pillar, and is also secured to the. tray by an extension plate e . The upper and lower arms of the bracket may be separate and may comprise metal plates with dovetailed anchors adapted to be moulded into the material of the tray. Fig. 13 shows the bracket moulded integrally with a tray of synthetic resin the upper arm el being connected by ribs j with the lower arm and provided with a part circular recess k around the inner end of the slot, the roof l of which rests upon the shoulder a while the curved surfaces k engage the pillar. The lower arm e is slotted and the semicircular closed end of the slot bears against the pillar.

    • 155,130. Cook, J. W. D. Jan. 19, 1920. Hand-grip wrenches.-Relates to pipe wrenches of the type in which one member having a curved jaw is adjustable upon the other member on which it pivots in the act of gripping the pipe or other object, a pivot pin on the former member being adapted to engage in one of a series of partcircular notches upon the back edge of the shank of the latter member to allow of adjustment of the open jaws to the size of the pipe &c. before gripping it, and consists in providing the curved jaw member with a guide having two angularlydisposed faces such that the other jaw member is maintained with one of its notches engaged with the pivot pin when its front edge contacts with one angular face, and is released from the pivot when rocked to engage with the other angular face. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the angularly-formed faces f , f are formed on the distance piece f secured between the jaw portions of the U-shaped jaw member d. By turning the other jaw member c so that its shank c contacts with the face f , the notched rear edge, c is disengaged from the pivot h, thus allowing free adjustment. The shank c may be widened out at c to prevent disconnexion of the two members. In the form shown in Fig. 4, the guide consists of a plurality of pins f , arranged to afford two angularly-disposed contact positions f , f'.
