The layers are formed by forming a first coloured layer and subsequently rotating the tubular structure by a predetermined angle before forming a second coloured layer. The angle of rotation is chosen such that the first and second coloured layers overlap. The decorative layer as a whole can form a graduated or lattice pattern and maybe formed on a fishing rod or the like.
