Class 6 (3) A mowing machine, of the kind having horizontal.rotary-disc cutters 10 arranged along an elongated wheeled frame or boom 11, is arranged to be towed behind tractor 13 so that the axis of the frame is either parallel to the line of travel of the tractor, for transport, or extends .transversely to this line, in working, at various positions of adjustment. The boom 11 is tubular and is supported at each end on a castor assembly 12 adjustable for height. The boom is towed by a pair of links 15, 16 attached to the tractor drawbar 14, the .link 16 being telescopic to permit the angling of the boom relatively to the tine of draught. The boom is adjustable about its own axis, to tilt the cutters, through a turnbuckle 21 connected between a bracket 19 on the boom a the forward end 22 of the link 15. Drive to the cutters is transmitted from a take-off 25, through a telescopic shaft 26, a pulley 29 and a belt 30 to pulleys 31 on the cutterspindles. Each cutter comprises a polygonal disc 39 carrying triangular knives 40, each disc having U-shaped pieces 41 projecting from its upper surface which serve to throw cut crops to one side.

    • 713,846. Crop-dusters: seed-sowers. PORTER, G. I. M. March 3, 1952 [June 4, 1951], No. 13185/51. Class 6 (1). [Also in Groups XXVIII and XXIX] A crop-duster comprises a powder hopper 10 and a centrifugal-blower 11 having a duct 12 leading below the hopper, the duct having a venturi orifice 32, Fig. 3, mounted beneath the hopper outlet comprising convergent side-walls 33 and a downwardly-depending deflecting-plate 34. The structure 32 is formed of sheet metal and is slid into the tapering duct 12, being retained therein by friction. The duct terminates in an adjustable nozzle 36 pivoted on a horizontal bolt 39. The hopper outlet is controlled by a cone 17 vertically-adjustable on a screwed shaft 18. Seeds may be fed into the duct 12 from a similar, smaller, hopper 23 having a spout which rests within the mouth 23a of a tube 22. Liquids may also be supplied from the hopper or from a separate container (not shown) through a pump 40 to a nozzle 43 adjacent to the main nozzle 36. The whole structure is swivelly mounted on a turntable 13 on a vehicle and the blower 11 may be driven from a small motor or from the engine of the vehicle. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 683,531.
