[Class 106(v)] [Also in Group I] An automatically operating device of the kind for intermittently delivering small quantities of liquid from a container by the action of a float-operated slidable valve therecn, movement of the valve by the float being effected by the fluctuating level of liquid in a reservoir or cistern within which the container is positioned comprises a container 1 for the additional liquid completely closed except by way of a tubular valve casing 2 thereon in which casing is slidably mounted a cylindrical plug valve 5 movable between inner and outer terminal positions by a float 10 of buoyant material submersible in the liquid of the reservoir or the like, the valve having one or more cavities 6 in its periphery which when the valve is in the inner terminal position communicate with the interior of the container and as the valve moves through the casing towards the outer terminal position forms with the wall of the casing one or more chambers or pockets for the transfer of a small quantity of the additional liquid to the reservoir, cistern, tank or the like. The cavities 6 may be formed by providing one or more flats around the periphery of the valve. According to the Provisional Specification an annulus may be formed around the valve by reducing its diameter or a transverse sloping hole be formed through the valve. The device may be suspended in an inverted position, Fig. 2, with the valve beneath, within the reservoir or cistern, or, if the liquid in the container 1 is lighter than the liquid in the reservoir, may be immersed in the liquid of the reservoir with the valve uppermost, Fig. 4.

Dec. 27, 1929, No. 39565. [Class 102 (ii).] A device for raising liquids by compressed air has two chambers A, A to which the liquid flows from pipes B, B . The valve E admits compressed air first to chamber A , the air pressure keeping vent valve H on its seating. When the chamber is nearly empty the float N rests on stop P and opens the valve H through the lever J thus venting the chamber. This loss of pressure causes valve E to shift and close chamber A , and hence the air then empties the chamber A through its discharge pipe R.

Tank carts.-In a tank vehicle, for transporting mptor spirit and other liquids, of the type in which the tank is supported from the chassis frame through the medium of three ball joints, the single central joint comprises a plate R secured to the underside of the tank A and having its central portion dished to form a part-spherical surface on its underside to engage over a counterpart spherical surface Q of a transverse plate N which is clamped in relation to the chassis frame members B. This joint is shown in the centre and the left hand side of Fig. 1. A central pin b is passed through the plates Q, R, the plate Q having a bolt hole of considerably greater diameter than that of plate R to allow for relative movement of the tank and support. The bolt b has a nut d and a dished washer c. - The right hand side of Fig. 1 shows one of the two forward ball joints in which a trunnion F clamped between plates G riveted to the tank A has secured to it a ball E. The ball E, which may be integral with the trunnion F, is located in a part spherical housing C, H secured to the frame B.

Tanks.-A petrol or oil tank is provided with a single valve arranged to operate both as a pressure relief valve and as a vent valve for admitting air when the petrol discharge valve is opened. The Figure shows a section of a vehicle petrol tank provided with a man hole A fitted with a cover plate B carrying the usual dip tube C and filler tube D. The relief and vent valve F is mounted to slide on a rod G through which the petrol discharge valve J is operated by a lever L, a shoulder P being provided just beneath the valve F so that the valve F is opened as soon as the rod G has been raised a small amount. A spring N above the valve F permits the valve to open whenever ther eis excess pressure within the tank. The openings Q beneath the valve, and the opening S in the top cover, are fitted with gauze to obviate danger of fire.

Valve-gear.-Relates to improvements o the valve - gear described in Specification No. 3761, A.D. 1901, whereby the transverse dimensions are reduced and the lead is unaffected by the angularity of the eccentricrods. The radial link a has a compound movement and is attached to a pivoted bracket g supported by a link e which is oscillated about the axis f by the eccentric m, the throw of which is equal to the lap and lead. The radial link is also oscillated about the pin c by the bell-crank lever p, p , which is connected to the bracket g by the rods r and to the eccentric m . The eccentrics m, m are arranged 180 and 270 degrees respectively in advance of the crank. In a modification having the axis f below the valve-gear. the eccentric m is arranged ninety degrees in advance of the crank.
