The casing 3 is surrounded by a framework 4 of longitudinal and circumferential members, which is enclosed in one or more outer waterproof casings 6, 7 of thick canvas. Life lines 8 with rings &c. 9 are provided around the buoy, a number of which may be secured together to form a raft or the like. End rings 10 are provided for towing and hauling purposes, and a pocket 13 holds stimulants or first-aid appliances.

Buoyant body attachments.-Relates to buoyant jackets of the type having front and rear upper and lower buoyant members and in which the lower buoyant member is hingedly connected to the upper. According to the invention a reversible jacket is provided having two similar upper buoyant members 10, 15 with corresponding lower buoyant members 11, 16 hinged attached thereto. The lower buoyant members swing out horizontally when the jacket is in use.. The buoyant members are made from canvas &c. and filled with kapok &c. or are inflated. Shoulder straps 17 connect the upper members and draw-strings 19 which are positioned by eyelets or loops 20 are provided for securing the jacket. Instead of the eyelets 20, tubular fabric members secured to the upper compartments in a known manner may be employed, through which the draw-strings pass. The straps 17 may be replaced by a strip of fabric.

Stoppers.-The stopper 8 has a rounded head 6, a flange 11 of greater diameter then the mouth of the bottle, and a projecting shoulder 9, over which an annular packing-washer 12 of rubber &c. is sprung. The locking-block 13 is pivoted by the pin 17 in a hole in the stopper, and is formed with a hole to receive the wire bail 4, the ends 5 of which are sprung into recesses 3 in the bottle neck. The stopper is secured by moving the block 13 from the position shown in Fig. 2, into the vertical position, as shown in Fig. 1, the flat ends of the block bearing on the flange 11. A reverse movement of the block releases the stopper. The stopper can be detached from the bottle by springing the ends of the bails 4 out of the recesses 3.

[Class 34 (ii).] In apparatus for drying tea &c., of the type wherein a number of rotatable rings are arranged one above the other in a casing 1, the rings carrying trays which are automatically tilted during rotation to spill the material on to the trays below in succession, the drying air is introduced through the top by a pipe 3 extending vertically downwards, a baffle 4 directing the air upwards through the trays. The tea &c. is fed from a hopper 44 to the uppermost ring of trays by a band conveyer 28, an adjustable tapered spreader 47 regulating the depth of the tea across the band.. The trayrings, are rotated by pinions 24 on an external vertical spindle 22 driven from gearing 30, which engage toothed rings 13 on the tray-rings. The tray-rings are formed of inner and outer hoops 11, 10 provided with rollers (not shown) running in circular angle-irons 5, 8. The perforated trays 38 are pivoted on radial rods 40 extending between the hoops 11, 10, and their outer edges rest on the angle-irons 8 in each of which a gap or gaps are made to permit the trays to fall periodically during rotation of the rings. The tea finally falls through an air-lock 49 and is discharged by a conveyer 50. The drying air may be discharged to the atmosphere or led back again to the heating plant. The casing may be built up of sections bolted together, the air-heating plant being adjustable according to the number of sections employed.

Buoys.-Lifebuoys of the usual circular form are built up on cane rings 1, 2, spaced apart by braces 3, Fig. 2, or 14, Fig. 4, and holding between them layers 5, 6, Fig. 3, of canvas forming a compartment 8 stuffed with kapok or the like. A pad 16, formed of a canvas cover 13 enclosing kapok &c. encircles the ring 2, and outer layers 9, 10 of canvas enclose the whole. The spaces 11 may be stuffed with kapok &c. A band 17, Fig. 1, slightly longer than the diameter of the buoy is attached to the ropes 18 and lies loosely across the buoy so as to form a seat or arm support.
