    • 261,517. Parker, F. M. Oct. 3, 1925. Tar-macadam, plant for making.-Apparatus for drying materials, such as stone &c., used in the manufacture of tarmacadam, comprises a series of connected ducts 1 which are suspended by steel springs 4 in a frame 3 and reciprocated through eccentrics and straps from a shaft 13. The material is fed through a shoot 17 into the uppermost of the ducts and passes in a zigzag path to the discharge shoot 19 in countercurrent to hot gases which are drawn through the duct from the furnace 19 bv a fan 24. In a modification, the ducts are replaced by a casing having a series of superposed and alternately oppositelyinclined shelves, the casing being supended from the frame and reciprocated in the same manner as the ducts. In another arrangement the ducts are formed with double passages, so that two different materials can be dried at the same time and suspended in the frame by swinging-links. The apparatus may be combined with a mixer and mounted upon a wheeled carriage so as to form a complete plant for the manufacturing of tarmacadam.

    • 229,370. Parker, F. M. Nov. 14,1923. Rotary apparatus.-Stone drying apparatus which may be mounted upon wheels and combined with mixing apparatus to form a plant for the preparation of tar macadam comprises rotary cylinders 1, 2 mounted upon a frame 4a which can be adjustably inclined to the horizontal, a furnace 6, a suction fan 8, and the usual feed and discharge shoots 3, 11. The inner cylinder is secured to a shaft 13 and the outer one is supported upon rollers secured to shafts 16, the shafts 13, 16 being rotated through gearing from the driving-shaft 17. In operation, the stone is fed by a conveyer 45 into the shoot 3 and passes into the inner cylinder through which it is propelled by the helical conveyer 5 so as to fall into the outer cylinder and thence to the discharge shoot 11, the furnace gases being drawn through the cylinders in countercurrent to the stone by the fan. Fig. 4 shows a modification, in which the material passes from the shoot 3 into the upper cylinder 1 and through the shoot 31 into the lower cylinder and thence to the discharge shoot 11. The inner cylinders are mounted upon shafts mounted in bearings carried by a subsidiary frame 30. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 14705/04 and 220/09.
