    • An immersion heater for a water cylinder or water tank comprises a base section 2 having heating elements 7, a thermostat, and thermostat pocket (6, figure 3), a detachable middle section 3 connected to a power supply, thermostat sleeve and an electrical inspection chamber, and a removable cover section 24 having a thermostat reset button and securing fixings, where detaching the middle from the base disconnects the mains power supply to the immersion. The base may comprise an upper section having a rod thermostat and plug pins, and a lower section comprising heating elements and a rod thermostat pocket. The heating element may comprise single, dual, or multiple element rods. The connection means in the middle section may comprise hollow connection points receiving the plug pins. When the middle is detached from the base, the earth pin may be the last to disengage and closure means on the hollow connection points may close to prevent access to the power supply. The cover 24 may comprise a large cover section covering the supply connections and a small cover section 5 covering the thermostat and an over cut out reset button, the small cover section allowing safe inspection of the thermostat.

    • 742,283. Incendiary compositions for fuze and ignition cords. MURPHY, T., MEDLOCK L. E., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 4, 1954 [Sept. 25, 1953], No. 26436/53. Classes 9(1) and 9(2) An incendiary waterproof non-detonating composition, which is extrudable between 60‹C and 200‹C, comprises a deflagrating mixture of pulverulent oxidizing and reducing agents in an non-explosive thermoplastic composition, wherein the thermoplastic composition comprises a natural rubber or a polymerized diene or a balata. The polymerized diene may be neoprene, a co-polymer of butadiene and styrene or a co-polymer of butadiene and acrylonitrile. The incendiary composition is preferably extrudable between 70‹C and 120‹C and preferably contains 7 to 25 per cent of the thermoplastic substance. Preservatives, anti-oxidants and curing agents or waxes may also be included. In an example 13.2 parts of a composition consisting of 7 parts rubber and 25 parts balata are mixed with 24.5 parts red lead, 28.4 parts potassium perchlorate, 15.0 parts silicon, 4.0 parts charcoal and 14.9 parts calcium silicide to produce a homogeneous incendiary composition, all parts being by weight. The composition is extruded at 100‹ C around a No. 36 s.w.g. copper wire to produce a fuze cord which can be wound on a 0.025-inch diameter mandrel without cracking. The deflagrating mixture may alternatively comprise potassium nitrate, potassium perchlorate, red lead and silicon or potassium perchlorate, red lead and silicon. Another composition given comprises potassium nitrate, red lead and calcium silicide.

    • 351,523. Games. MURPHY, T. and COLLINS, L. W. J., 158, Latimer Road, North Kensington, London. March 24, 1930, No. 9410. [Class 132 (ii).] Arresting a moving model by competitive control, apparatus for.-A game apparatus comprises one or more devices for mechanically impelling coins or tokens on to a playing board, means for registering the number of coins impelled upon the board, and a pair of contacts on the board connected in an indicator circuit such that the indicator is operated when the contacts are bridged by a coin. A moving object 25, for example a model of a hare and dogs, motor cyclists or greyhounds, is mounted on a trolley carrying an electric driving motor and is adapted to run on rails 26 supported on a track 10 formed of sections secured together by clamps 13. By closing two switches the driving-motor circuit is completed through the rails to propel the hare round the track, and two lamps 19 in each compartment 15 of a ring thereof are illuminated. The compartments are covered by glass panels 17 and each is provided with a pivoted coin projector 22 (described in Specification 350,431) and with a pair of contact strips 21. The players insert coins into the projectors and endeavour to shoot them on to the contact strips thereby completing a relay circuit which breaks the track circuit and stops the hare, at the same time illuminating a third lamp in the successful compartment. Coins projected beyond the contact strips fall into an annular collecting trough. As each coin is inserted into a projector, the insertion is registered by electrical means on an indicator to show the amount invested, and a further indicator 24 actuated by electrical impulses from the coin projectors as described in Specification 350,431 indicates the monetary allocations for prizes.
