摘要： An on-line wagering system with programmable game entry cards including cards having on-card data storage for value tokens and data uniquely related to the player. The player cards are operable as payment means in which the tokens are spent and as play validation and play entry means in lieu of mark sense slips and printed validation receipts. Demographic player data uniquely related to the owner of the card is stored on the card and possibly in the central wagering system memory. This allows correlation of play entries with player demographics. A plurality of agent terminals in data communication with the central data processor interface between the central processor and the player cards. The agent terminals preferably also accept traditional mark sense entry slips and produce printed verification receipts, upon request.

摘要： An optical reader of a form is discussed where the form has a stored known boundary or boundaries. When the boundaries in a captured image do not match those of the stored known boundaries, it may be determined that an obstruction exists that will interfere with a correct reading of the form. The boundary may be printed, blank, and may include quiet areas, or combinations thereof in stored known patterns. A captured image of the form is compared to retrieved, stored boundary information and differences are noted. The differences may be thresholded to determine if an obstruction exists. If an obstruction is detected, the operator may be signaled, and the location may be displayed or highlighted. The form may be discarded or obstruction may be cleared and the form may be re-processed.

Slow, lossy wide area networks may include satellite and tower wireless paths along with the traditional Ethernet and other land line paths. The system replaces a traditional XML/TCP/IP protocol with a more efficient UDP protocol that speeds up the 'round trip' time associated with gaming devices. Efficiency is also enhanced by reducing message content and the number of messages transferred and implementing the application code in binary which is compressed for additional time and size efficiencies. These time efficiencies allow hosts to handle tens of thousands of clients thereby reducing overall system costs. In addition, third party applications are accommodated.
