    • A coupler (1) for a low pressure piping system has a hollow metal tube (2) terminating in a pair of end portions (4) defining open ends (10) for slidably receiving and joining together sections of other metal tubes (13) in a substantially air tight relationship. Slots (12) are formed in at least one of the end portions (4) to aid in the crimping of the hollow metal tube (2) by an annular clamp (22). A radial flange (14) is formed adjacent the end portion and receives an annular seal (18) therein. A stop (20) for limiting the insertion of a tube section (13) into the end of the hollow metal tube (2) is formed on the inside of the coupler adjacent the radial flange opposite the slots. The annular clamp (22) encircles the slots (12) and is tightened to clamp the end portions to form metal to metal contact between the metal tubes (13) and to form a seal between the annular seal (18) and both metal tubes (13).

    • A vacuum hose storage system includes a housing which is mounted in a storage area of a dwelling or vehicle and connected to a vacuum source. A length of flexible, expandable cleaning hose is mounted in a looped fashion about a plurality of spaced rollers rotatably mounted within the housing. A handle is attached to one end of the hose and is seated in a cradle formed in the housing when the hose is in a fully retracted position within the housing. The cradle is mounted in the housing and receives the open end of the hose when not in use and enables other vacuum tubes in the structure to be operational without shutting off the vacuum to the stored hose. An ON/OFF switch is located in the cradle for controlling the vacuum source and is actuated when the handle is placed in or removed from the cradle. The hose has an internal helical spring which biases the hose toward a retracted position about the spaced rollers within the housing. In an alternate embodiment, the hose is slidably extendable from within a rigid serpentine tubing mounting within the housing.

    • A vacuum canister for use with a central vacuum system is disclosed. The vacuum canister includes a hollow, tubular housing that has openings at eith er end. A cover covers the upper opening and a dust collection bin is disposed beneath the lower opening. The housing is divided into clean and dirt collection chambers by a wall. The clean chamber is a dust-free area and the vacuum pump assembly is mounted therein. The dirt collection chamber is the area in the canister where the dirt-laden vacuumed air is drawn into the device. The vacuum canister is provided with an auxiliary vacuum intake assembly that enters the housing in the clean, dust-free chamber. The intake assembly includes a receptacle for receiving the end fitting of a portable vacuum hos e and the receptacle is operatively connected to the dirt collection chamber of th e housing by way of a conduit that extends from the receptacle through an aperture in the wall and into the dirt collecting chamber. The receptacle is wired to the motor for the vacuum pump assembly so that when the portable hose is attached to the receptacle, the vacuum pump is automatically started. The wiring for the receptacle passes through the clean chamber of the housing. The receptacle includes a pivoted cover which covers the receptacle when it is n ot in use so as to maintain the vacuum within the system.
