    • The disclosure describes a method of analysing refractive index of an analysed medium (130) by means of a polarisation-sensitive optical sensor and a sensor system for implementing the method, the system comprising an optical prism (10) provided with a dielectric multilayer (50) having a side adjacent to the optical prism (10) and a sensor side adapted to come into contact with the analysed medium (130), which is a mixture comprising 0 to 100 % of component A and 100 to 0 % of component B, wherein the mixture exhibits a change in refractive index depending on the ratio of components A and B. The analysed medium (130) having a refractive index n, is brought into contact with the sensor side of the dielectric multilayer (50). Further, the optical prism (10) and the side of the dielectric multilayer (50) adjacent to the optical prism (10) are illuminated by a collimated and linearly polarized beam (30) comprising both s- and p-components of a polarised wave generated by a quasi-monochromatic source (80) such that the angle of incidence Θ (71) is less than the critical angle 0crjt for excitation of a Bloch surface wave. Afterwards, at least a portion of the s- and p-component of the polarised wave is reflected from the side of the dielectric multilayer (50) adjacent to the optical prism (10), which is manifested in a reflectance ratio Rp/Rs for the analysed medium (130) having a refractive index n,. Subsequently, the s-and p-components of the polarised wave of the reflected beam (110) are separated into polarisation components (121) and (122) by means of a polarisation splitter, and each polarisation component (121, 122) is detected by a photodetector (123, 124) to produce an analysable signal corresponding to the effective reflectance Rp and Rs, which is evaluated by means of a control unit (150), wherein the reflectance ratio Rp/Rs is assigned to the value of refractive index n, of the analysed medium (130).
