    • A buffer chip is used to isolate the internal connection between an HDMI receiver chip and a remotely-located HDMI port in a consumer electronic device. In one embodiment, an HDMI receiver/transmitter circuit is coupled to a main processor via an internal bus. The HDMI receiver/transmitter circuit, which includes one or more local HDMI inputs/outputs, is further electrically coupled to an HDMI buffer chip, which is in turn connected to one or more HDMI ports located remotely from the HDMI receiver/transmitter circuit. In one embodiment, the detection and control of the HDMI buffer chip is provided directly by the HDMI receiver/transmitter circuit. In another embodiment, the HDMI buffer chip may be electrically isolated from the device's main processor.

    • A method and system provide for passive monitoring by a monitor entity of content displayed for viewing by a content viewing device. Generally, one or more content source parameters of a content viewing device are observed or monitored. From the one or more content source parameters are determined content displayed for viewing on the content viewing device. One or more content data representative of the displayed content is next extracted. A monitor entity passively monitors the one or more content data and optionally the one or more content source parameters of the content viewing device. The monitor entity may be a person, an external device programmed to do monitoring, or a person interfacing with an external device.

    • A method of providing a software patch to an electronic device. A device containing a software patch for an electronic device may be plugged to an electrical outlet. A plurality of electronic devices may be queried, over a power line through the electrical outlet, for identifying the electronic device requiring the software patch. As a result, the electronic device requiring the software patch may also identify the version of the firmware installed on the electronic device. Test signals may be sent over the power line to determine the signal quality of various multiple carriers for using OFDM scheme. Suitability of various sub-carriers for sending the software patch over the power line may be determined. Higher density modulation may be used for higher quality sub-carriers to send the software patch to the electronic device. An acknowledgment signal for receipt of the properly received authenticated software patch may be received.
