    • The present invention provides context information to a called party or network resources when a caller initiates a click-to-call (C2C) call. The context information bears on the reason for the call, and in particular to the software entity from which the C2C call was initiated when a user selected a C2C tag in the software entity. Having access to the context information, a called party can readily ascertain the reason for the call to better respond to the caller, and network resources may better route the call to an appropriate called party. The context information may identify or include information from the software entity, such an electronic document or software application from which the C2C call was initiated. Additional information that is beneficial for the called party or the network resources may be provided by the caller and sent along with the context information.

    • The present invention provides a fail-over architecture for packet telephony applications. A media gateway is configured to have at least two interfaces, each of which is associated with a communication path. The communication paths are isolated from one another as much as possible, and may each be used to facilitate the transfer of packets for a communication session. The fail-over process implemented by the gateway includes receiving packets from a remote gateway, and when an interruption in incoming packets occurs, switching to another communication path for both transmission and reception of packets to facilitate the communication session with the remote gateway. As such, an interruption in packets due to a failure in a primary communication path results in both gateways automatically switching to a redundant communication path to support the communication session.

    • The present invention allows a communication terminal to monitor signal metrics of received signals for a defined location and create a signal signature for the defined location. The defined location may be a position, an area about a position, or a defined area. After the signal signature for the defined location is created, the communication terminal will compare currently monitored signal metrics for received signals with the signal signature during normal operation. Upon returning to the location, the communication terminal will monitor signal metrics for signals being received at the location and detect when the current signal metrics correspond to the signal signature for the location. The correspondence of the new signal metrics with the signal signature indicates that the communication terminal is at a defined location.

    • The present invention provides for efficient delivery of information between parties associated with a voice call. When a caller initiates a call to the called party, infrastructure is in place to access information associated with the caller and called party and exchange the information between the multimedia clients associated with the parties. The delivery of the information may be fully automated, or may require authorization by the parties owning the information. Further, information delivery may take place in multiple stages, wherein automated information is initially provided and on-demand information, which requires authorization by the party owning the information, is sent to the other party's multimedia client upon receiving such authorization. Preferably, the address to a location capable of providing the information is initially delivered to the multimedia clients, which can request the information based on the address as desired by the parties involved in the call.
