    • A video clock generation apparatus and method are provided. The apparatus comprises a ring oscillator for generating an oscillation frequency; a loopspeed detection unit for detecting a loopspeed that represents the number of pulses generated at the oscillation frequency when the ring oscillator oscillates for a predetermined time; and a video clock generation unit for suppressing generation of front-end video clock signals for a predetermined initial time, and after a first predetermined time following initialization of the effective video clock signals, maintaining a clock state of back-end video clock signals for a second predetermined time, wherein the front-end video clock signals precede effective video clock signals for image formation and the back-end video clock signals follow the effective video clock signals, and wherein the maintained clock state is the clock state prior to the second predetermined time clock signals.

    • A spatial light modulator has a plurality of grating elements. Each grating element can be switched between a diffracting state and a reflecting state, and only zeroth order light beams from the spatial light modulator are directed onto photosensitive material. An irradiation position on the photosensitive material is moved in a direction perpendicular to a width direction corresponding to an arrangement direction of the grating elements. The minimum line width on the photosensitive material corresponds to a width of a predetermined number of grating elements where the predetermined number is two or more. Each group of grating elements which are spatially continuously in the diffracting state or spatially continuously in the reflecting state consists of the predetermined number of grating elements or more while writing is performed. This makes it possible to appropriately record an image on the photosensitive material at high addressable resolution.

    • A beam light scanning apparatus capable of reducing influences of variations in characteristics of circuits disposed in a signal path extending until a laser driver and speeding up image data transfer for scan and exposure. Data of each line is distributed by an image data I/F into data trains of two channels, i.e., an odd-numbered pixel train and an even-numbered pixel train. The data in the two-channel trains are written by writing units into a plurality of memories in parallel for each of the trains in response to a line sync signal. During the same processing cycle as that for the writing, the data are read out of the memories in parallel by reading units. The data of two channels are combined by a multiplexer into a data train in the original order of pixels in each line, and a driving signal based on the combined data is generated by a PWM. A laser is driven by the driving signal.

    • A method or system is provided for producing a charge image on an intermediate carrier of an electrophotographic printer or copier. A character generator having a plurality of light sources arranged in at least one row in groups is provided. A separate functional unit is provided for each light source group for control of the light sources. The functional unit is connected with a central control unit, the functional unit comprising an address system via which it can be activated, and a control unit. The light sources of each group are controlled by said control unit assigned to the functional unit. The at least one row of light sources is imaged onto the intermediate carrier as an exposure line, the intermediate carrier being displaced substantially transverse to the exposure line relative to the character generator. A temporal beginning of illumination phases of groups of light sources is selected such that deviations of the exposure line from a target line is reduced.
