    • A communications system, such as part of a real-time location system, includes a transmitter that can be part of a location processor, tag emission reader or tag interrogator that generates a frequency shift key (FSK) modulated wireless communication signal representative of digital data and transmits the communications signal over a wireless communications channel. A receiver such as incorporated within a tag transceiver used in the real-time location system receives the FSK modulated communication signal. The receiver includes a circuit for calculating the magnitude of low and high tones of the FSK modulated communication signal and a threshold for amplitude shift keyed (ASK) channel data and FSK channel data to derive the digital data even in the presence of on-tone jammers in the communications channel.

    • A non-coherent frequency shift keying transmitter for up-converting a baseband signal to a radio frequency signal is provided. The non-coherent frequency shift keying transmitter applies the interpolation method in a digital frequency synthesizer to replace the conventional Phase Locked Loop (PLL) circuit. The micro processing unit receives a baseband signal firstly, then the baseband signal is converted to a RF signal via a digital synthesizer, a numerical controlled oscillator, a cascaded integrator-comb filter, and a digital-analog converter. The RF signal is then transmitted via a local oscillator, a band-pass filter, a power amplifier, and a transmitting end. This circuit eliminates unnecessary analog devices so that fabrication migration issue is avoided. Further, the modulated RF signal is more stable than that of the conventional modulator, and has a more efficient spectrum control and a better performance on the receiver end. A non-coherent FSK transmitting system is also provided in the present invention.

    • An integrated circuit radio transceiver comprises an integrated phase shift mixer for generating a phase and frequency shifted output signal to at least a portion of one of a transmitter or receiver front end. The integrated phase shift mixer includes a phase shift block that is operable to produce a phase shifted current signal at an output of the phase shift block and a mixer that is operable to produce the phase and frequency shifted output signal based upon the phase shifted current signal. One aspect of the present invention is that the phase shift block produces an output as a current signal and the mixer block is operably disposed and formed to receive the current signal produced by the phase shift block. Thus, the mixer includes a folded cascode mixer that provides a substantially low input impedance.

    • An error correction technique for data communication receivers such as WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) receivers is provided. The error correction technique is for correcting a frequency and/or phase error in an incoming digitally modulated signal. A constellation manipulator is provided that is adapted to manipulate the phase constellation system of the incoming digitally modulated system by mapping each constellation point of the phase constellation system to a predefined range of phase angles. The predefined range has a width of less than 2π. Further, an error detector is provided that is connected to receive data from the constellation manipulator. The data pertains to the manipulated phase constellation system. The error detector is adapted to evaluate the data to detect the frequency and/or phase error.
