    • An image analysis system in which the conventional monochrome television monitor is replaced by a colour television monitor. The video signal relating to the field under analysis is arranged to produce a monochrome display in the colour monitor but signals obtained from processing the video signal are arranged to produce distinctive colours in the monochrome display. Circuits are described by which the detected signal pulses obtained by threshold detection of the video signal, detected signal pulses of amended duration (both increased and decreased duration), count pulses and shape classifying pulses may be arranged to produce different colours in the display. Where alpha-numeric characters are included in the television display to indicate a numerical value of e.g. the number of features detected and counted, circuits are described for producing the alpha-numeric characters in the same colour as the parameter to which they relate, is displayed.

    • In the apparatus for recording and reproducing color video signals, there are provided a recording section operating to convert a modulated subcarrier wave of a first frequency into another modulated subcarrier wave of a second frequency by modulating the carrier wave of the first frequency with a third fixed frequency, a reproducing section for reconverging another modulated subcarrier wave of the second frequency into the modulated subcarrier wave of the first frequency by the action of a modulator operating at the third frequency, and a compensating circuit for compensating for the variation with time of the second frequency of another modulated subcarrier wave thereby obtaining an output of the modulated subcarrier wave having a frequency substantially equal to the first frequency. The output of the third frequency and the output from the compensating circuit are selectively applied to the first mentioned modulator. By the operation of this switching means it is possible to duplicate the color video signals with two video signal recording and reproducing apparatus.

    • There is disclosed herein apparatus and methods for the creation of special photographic effects, such as blue screen travelling matte effects. A particular selectable saturated color appearing in the simultaneous red, blue and green video output signals of an electronic color camera, for example, is sensed and removed from the video signals by electronic subtraction of the selected color. The output red, blue and green video signals derived from a second electronic color camera are substituted for the removed saturated color. The final composite red, blue and green video output signals therefore contain picture elements from both cameras, combined in a manner such that the specific saturated color from the first camera is completely eliminated and replaced by picture elements derived from the second camera.
