    • A signboard integral with an LED lamp includes a lamp post and a display device mounted in the lamp post. The display device includes a box, a transparent plate mounted on an opened end of the box, a panel mounted on a side of the transparent plate and a luminous member consisting a plurality of LEDs hermetically received in the box and located at another side of the transparent plate. The panel has a plurality of holes representing marks to be shown by the signboard. Light generated by the luminous member radiates through the transparent plate and the holes of the panel to display the marks represented by the holes. The marks could be a company logo, brand, trademark or other information.

    • An exit sign comprising a housing and a plurality of LEDs that activates to produce yellow color light. The plurality of LEDs are mounted in the housing. Means for passing light from the plurality of LEDs in the form of indicia symbolizing an exit enables viewing by an observer, such means includes a stencil having four independent letters forming the word EXIT. DC circuitry is in operative electrical connection with the plurality of LEDs. A source of AC electrical power activates the DC circuitry. The plurality of LEDs can be both red color output LEDs and green color output LEDs, or the plurality of LEDs can be bicolor red and green LEDs having the capability of producing both red light and green light. The red light and green light are additively mixed to produce yellow light. In the alternative, the plurality of LEDs can be yellow color output LEDs or the plurality of LEDs can be white color output LEDs. The color light from the plurality of LEDs pass through either a red color diffusion filter to produce red light indicia, or a green color diffusion filter to produce green light indicia. An emergency power backup battery is connected to the plurality of LEDs. Means for producing emergency light is optional.

    • An optical display apparatus includes a plurality of optical elements of acrylic material and an additive. Each optical element is shaped into cylindrical body with a first convex end and a second convex end to improve light receiving and transmitting efficiency of the optical element. By activation of a fluorescent lamp, the optical elements can emit ultra-bright color light. A light reflective chamber encloses the fluorescent lamp and the optical elements. Through a panel of the chamber and the optical elements mounted on the panel via apertures of the panel, various desired display patterns may be accomplished. The additive may be fluorescent color dyes or bleaching power. The optical display apparatus further includes a convex lens, a color disc and a motor. The motor drives the color disc to rotate so that light rays focus by the convex lens have variable colors. By means of optical-coupling means, the variable-color light rays are reflectively transmitted to some of optical elements to generate abundant color lights.

    • An illuminated sign assembly is provided, of the type that includes illuminated alphanumeric characters lying on a dark background, wherein the characters and/or color can be readily changed at low cost. The sign includes a thick rigid structural plate (26, FIG. 3) of colorless translucent material which can be readily placed in a lightbox that shines light through the plate. A thin color sheet (30) which passes light of a selected color, lies on the front face of the translucent plate, and an opaque character sheet (34) which has apertures (20) defining alphanumeric characters, lies on the front face of the color sheet. The color and character sheets are each thin, so new color and character sheets can be provided at low cost for mounting on the plate. The color and character sheets each have a layer of water-soluble adhesive so a water spray (62, FIG. 11) can be applied to greatly reduce the adhesive viscosity to enable squeegeeing (at Z) of each sheet to remove air bubbles. Characters are cut from the front face of the character sheet (34, FIG. 7 ) while a backing (72) lies over an adhesive layer on the back face of the character sheet. After character areas are removed, a holder sheet (76) is adhered to the front face of the character sheet, and the backing sheet is then removed. After the character sheet is applied facewise on the color sheet, the holder sheet (76) is removed.

    • An illuminated exit sign having a novel layered arrangement including a multiplicity of miniature incandescent light bulbs. The light bulbs are mounted on a lamp assembly board in such a manner as to spell out the word "EXIT." A plastic sheet having holes therein is laid over the lamp assembly board, each of the bulbs entering a hole in the sheet. A stencil-type mask on top of the sheet defines the work "EXIT." When power is supplied, the bulbs provide direct illumination to the observer, and also diffuse light throughout the plastic sheet, providing background illumination of the lettering, with improved field of vision.

    • A vehicle safety device which gives a visual indication to a driver of one vehicle when the distance between his vehicle and another vehicle is safe, unsafe or where caution must be used for the speed at which he is driving. The device is positioned with respect to the other vehicle and includes a housing having an illumination source and a screen impervious to light. The screen contains a plurality of pairs of windows. The windows constituting a pair are separated from each other by a spacing which depends upon the resolving power of the eye. For a predetermined speed, the windows constituting a particular pair are separated such that at distances between the vehicles, up to a predetermined minimum safe stopping distance, the windows constituting that pair are seen as two windows indicating an unsafe condition; for distances between the vehicles which are greater than the minimum stopping distance by a fixed amount, the two windows appear as one, indicating a safe condition, and for distances therebetween a hazy indication is viewed which indicates that caution must be exercised at that speed for that distance between the vehicles.
