摘要： A method and apparatus for making an optical fiber preform, including injecting a plasma gas source into the first end of a tubular member; generating a ring plasma flame with the plasma gas source flowing through a plasma gas feeder nozzle, the plasma gas feeder nozzle including: an inner tube, an outer tube, wherein the plasma gas source is injected between the inner tube and the outer tube to produce the ring plasma flame, such that at least a portion of the ring plasma flame is directed radially toward the inner surface of the tubular member; traversing the tubular member along the longitudinal axis relative to the plasma flame; depositing at least one soot layer on the interior surface of the tubular member by introducing reagent chemicals into the plasma flame; and fusing all of the soot layers into a glass material on the interior surface of the tubular member.

摘要： A method and apparatus are disclosed for improving densification of porous substrate using a film boiling process. In particular, the disclosed method and apparatus permit more complete densification of a substrate (i.e., densification closer to the surface of the substrate) by providing a sort of barrier that reduces cooling of the surface of the substrate being densified caused by contact with the relatively cool boiling liquid precursor of the densifying material, such as carbon. In particular, contact between the substrate and the liquid precursor is reduced using one or both of physical barriers (such as a mesh material) or structures that promote the formation of an insulating gaseous layer between the substrate and the liquid precursor (such as a plate closely spaced apart from the surface of the porous substrate).

摘要： A method for producing a steel component provided with a metallic coating which protects against corrosion, in which a steel flat product, produced from an alloyed heat-treated steel, is coated with an Al coating which contains ≧85% wt. Al and optionally ≦15% wt. Si, a Zn coating with ≧90% wt. Zn, and a top layer, the main constituent of which is at least one metal salt of phosphoric acid or diphosphoric acid and which additionally can contain contents of up to 45% of an Al:Zn ratio as well as optionally metal oxides, metal hydroxides and/or sulphur compounds, the steel flat product is heat treated at ≧750° C., and the steel component is hot-formed from the heated steel flat product. The hot-formed steel component is cooled at a cooling rate sufficient to form a tempered or martensitic structure.

摘要： Embodiments of the present invention relate to apparatuses and methods for fabricating electrochemical cells. One embodiment of the present invention comprises a single chamber configurable to deposit different materials on a substrate spooled between two reels. In one embodiment, the substrate is moved in the same direction around the reels, with conditions within the chamber periodically changed to result in the continuous build-up of deposited material over time. Another embodiment employs alternating a direction of movement of the substrate around the reels, with conditions in the chamber differing with each change in direction to result in the sequential build-up of deposited material over time. The chamber is equipped with different sources of energy and materials to allow the deposition of the different layers of the electrochemical cell.

The steel member is then cooled in a cooling gas having a pressure lower than atmospheric pressure. A desired portion of the cooled steel member is then heated using high-density energy.
