摘要： A method (and structure) includes forming a wireless ad hoc network with a plurality of sensors at a first location, the ad hoc network being a localized, decentralized network wherein each participating sensor has an equal status on the network for performing network functions and is free to associate with any other ad hoc network device in a link range of a vicinity of the first location. Data is transmitted from the plurality of sensors via the ad hoc network, for consumption by an at-home user located at a second location different from said first location. Each sensor indicates a location and a directivity of sensing in the vicinity of the first location, so that the plurality of sensors thereby can provide data sufficient for the at-home user to be immersed in an experience at the first location.

The device is detected and connected to a system once it enters a space. A private message is directed to the device and it is received by the system, which notifies the device that the message has been received. The user can then look up at a device to display the message and the system can determine where the user is looking, in order to deliver the message using rapid serial visual presentation to the user on the display device.

A method for providing an automated receptionist for a host user includes obtaining one or more images of a work environment of the host user; processing the one or more images to determine if at least one visitor is present in the work environment; and if the at least one visitor is determined to be present in the work environment, notifying the host user that the at least one visitor is present in the work environment, wherein at least one of the steps are performed by at least one hardware device. The method may be initiated, for example, when the host user is not present in the work environment. The automated receptionist can optionally (i) provide a greeting to the at least one visitor; (ii) enable communication between the at least one visitor and the host user; and/or (iii) provide one or more information items to the at least one visitor when the host user is not present.

The recognizing step includes comparing the verb parts and the noun parts from the user utterances individually and as pairs to the verb parts and the noun parts of the sample utterances. The method additionally includes selectively performing a given one of the user commands responsive to a recognition result.

A device can detect when the device itself is lost, by determining one or more expected neighboring devices for one or more time periods; monitoring a local environment for one or more of the expected neighboring devices using device-to-device communication; detecting when the device is lost based on device-to-device communication and whether a threshold criteria of the expected neighboring devices in proximity to the device for a given interval of time; and sending at least one relay message to notify an owner of the lost device. The threshold criteria comprises, e.g., whether a minimum number of expected neighboring devices are nearby or whether at least one fixed neighboring device is nearby. The device-to-device communications employ one or more of short range relay communications and low-power mesh communications.
