    • An electrical connector is provided for insulation displacing termination of ribbon cable having insulated conductors in predetermined close centerline spacing. The connector includes a dielectric housing having a mating face, an opposed cable-receiving face and a plurality of terminal-receiving passages extending between the faces for receiving a plurality of terminals. Each terminal includes a mating portion toward the mating face and slotted U-shaped insulation displacement portion toward the cable-receiving face. The insulation displacement portions of the terminals are arranged staggered in at least two rows. A dielectric cover forces the conductors into the U-shaped insulation displacement portions and embraces the cable between the cover and the cable-receiving face of the housing. The cover includes a surface for engaging the cable and recesses in the surface for receiving the U-shaped insulation displacement portions of the terminals. The surface of the cover defines a plurality of parallel conductor support channels. Each channel defines upper and lower conductor support levels arranged such that a lower conductor support level of one channel is between two upper conductor support levels of adjacent channels. Projections are formed in each channel to hold a respective conductor therein. Therefore, the ribbon cable can be pressed into the conductor support channels of the cover and held on the cover for subsequent termination of the cable to the terminals on the connector housing.

    • In certain connector plugs use is made of contact strips (13) mounted next to each other such that at one end they form exposed contact springs (8) while at their other ends they have a loop portion (14) provided with a V- of U-shaped recess (16) for connection with a connector wire. The dimensions are rather narrow, and there is hardly room for two such recesses in each loop portion. However, there is an expressed demand for connecting two wires to some of the contact strips, and according to the invention this is made possible by shaping each strip (13) with two loops (14) mutually spaced in the longitudinal direction of the strip, where there is better room than in the width or height direction. With conventional shaping technique it is difficult to provide two loops (14) on one contact strip (13), but the invention comprises a method, which makes this possible, viz. by arranging for an active feeding of strip material to the loop areas from both sides of each of these.

    • Miniature light units with push-in bulb assemblies are mounted on a multi-wire cord in an arrangement providing a "chaser" set. The push-in bulb assemblies plug into the socket of socket housings which provide wireways for the cord and multiple guideways for pairs of push-in contact elements. The contact elements bridge cutouts in the cord wires provided in a predetermined pattern, there being one cutout in each light unit. The bulb assemblies have lead wires extending across opposite side faces so as to engage the contact elements regardless of which of the guideways is occupied by the contact elements. Jaws at the ends of the wireways clamp the cord against movement relative to the light units when the socket housings are assembled.

    • An electrical connector (20) for terminating a multiconductor cable (62) includes a housing (22) having a cable receiving face (28), opposed side walls (30,32) and an end wall (36). The end wall (36) has protrusions (64,66,68) extending outwardly therefrom. The first protrusion (64) is located adjacent the cable receiving face (28), centrally located with respect to the side walls (30,32). The lower surface (70) of the first protrusion (64) defines a latching surface. Second (66) and third (68) protrusions are located adjacent respective side walls (30,32), remote from the cable receiving face (28), with each of the second (66) and third (68) protrusions defining a sloped surface (82,84) angled toward the other protrusion, and a latch shoulder (96,98). A terminating cover (24) has a pair of spaced latch arms (124,126) depending therefrom, and an inner surface (114) for engaging a ribbon cable (62) terminated in the housing (22 ). The latch arms each have first (140,142) and second (168,170) latch means adjacent distal ends. In a first position, the first latch means (140,142) on each latch arm (124,126) engages the latching surface (70) of the first protrusion (64) and the distal end (172,174) engages a respective sloped surface (82,84) on one of the other protrusions (66,68) such that the inner surface (114) of the terminating cover (24) is spaced from the cable receiving face (28) to permit insertion and alignment of the cable (62). The terminating cover (24) is movable from the first position, toward the cable receiving face (28) to terminate cable (62) to the housing (22), to a second position. The terminating cover (24) is secured to the housing (22) in a terminated condition at the second position, with the second latch means (168,170) of each latch arm (124,126) engaging a respective latch shoulder (96,98).

    • A cable termination assembly, and a mold and method of molding the same, includes an electrical cable including at least one conductor, at least one electrical contact, a support body for at least preliminarily supporting the electrical contact, the electrical contact having an insulation displacement connection portion, a contacting portion, and an offset between said portions, and the support body having a land for cooperating with the offset to support the electrical contact during insulation displacement connection connecting of the insulation displacement connection portion to such conductor. Part of the electrical contact and the support body cooperate during the mentioned molding to effect a shut off function blocking flow of molding material of the strain relief into an area of the support body where the contacting portion is located.
