    • The method provides for a first network controller, operating according to a first radio technology, to form and send a relay message to a second network controller, operating according to a different, second radio technology. The relay message includes an embedded message for the second network controller. The embedded message may be a transition message requesting transition of a packet switched call for a mobile station handled by the first network controller to a call for the mobile station handled by the second network controller. The method further provides selection of another wireless element for service at a wireless unit, using a current wireless element. A wireless unit receives a message identifying at least one other wireless element, available to the wireless unit and to which a wireless element currently in communication with the wireless unit is also in communication with and the wireless unit selects another wireless element for possible future service based on the message.

    • A communication system having a wireless trunk for connecting multiple phone lines over wireless communication links to a cellular network comprises a central telephone switch, such as a private branch exchange or key system, connected through one or more trunk lines to a wireless access communication unit. The wireless access communication unit preferably comprises a separate subscriber interface for each trunk line from the central telephone switch. The wireless access communication unit collects data from each of the subscriber interfaces, formats the data into a format compatible with an over-the-air protocol, and transmits the information over one or more wireless channels to a cellular base station. The wireless access communication unit thereby connects calls received from the central telephone switch's trunk lines over a wireless trunk to a network. A controller within the wireless access communication unit interfaces the subscriber interfaces with a radio transceiver, and assists in the conversion of data from a format suitable for wireless transmission. Authentication is carried out separately for each of the subscriber interfaces, thereby allowing the wireless access communication unit to represent itself as multiple individual subscribers to the network. Upon each initial registration, each subscriber interface derives its own ciphering key from a stored user key and uses it thereafter for encryption and decryption.

    • Embodiments of the present invention disclose a method for migrating a user plane from an Iur-g interface to an A interface and an apparatus. The method includes: receiving, by a BSC, a migration commit notification that is sent by an RNC through an Iur-g interface, where the migration commit notification is sent by the RNC according to a notification message of finishing preparing resources by the BSC, and the notification message of finishing preparing resources by the BSC is sent by a core network; and migrating, by the BSC, a user plane from the Iur-g interface to an A interface according to the migration commit notification. In this way, the interruption duration in a process of migrating the user plane from the Iur-g interface to the A interface may be shortened.
