    • The present invention is to provide an organic compound having excellent characteristics as a material for an organic EL device having a high efficiency and a high durability, and to provide an organic EL device having a high efficiency and a high durability by using the compound. The invention relates to a compound having a pyridoindole ring structure having a substituted pyridyl group attached thereto, which is represented by the general formula (1); and to an organic electroluminescent device comprising a pair of electrodes and at least one organic layer interposed between the electrodes, wherein at least one of the organic layer(s) contains the compound: wherein Ar represents a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic hydrocarbon group, a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic heterocyclic group, or a substituted or unsubstituted condensed polycyclic aromatic group; R1 to R10 may be the same or different from one another and each independently represents a hydrogen atom, a fluorine atom, a cyano group, an alkyl group, or a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic hydrocarbon group; Z represents a 6-membered aromatic heterocyclic ring containing one nitrogen atom; and m and n each independently represents an integer of 1 to 3, provided that n is 1 when m is 2 or 3.

    • A method for producing a polyether-polyol having a narrow molecular weight distribution, which comprises carrying out selective fractional extraction of the low-molecular weight component from a polyether-polyol (A) having an average molecular weight of from 500 to 4500 represented by formula (1): HO—[(CH2)4O]n—[(CR1R2)pO]q—H  (1) wherein R1 and R2, which may be the same or different, each represents a hydrogen atom or a linear or branched alkyl group having from 1 to 5 carbon atoms; n indicates a positive integer; p indicates an integer of from 1 to 8; and q indicates 0 or a positive integer, by the use of an aqueous solution (C) containing from 15 to 70 wt % sulfuric acid at a room temperature to 100° C., to thereby suitably determine the amount of the aqueous sulfuric acid solution to the overall organic layer and the sulfuric acid concentration in accordance with the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of the intended polyether-polyol to be fractionally extracted.

    • Objects of the invention are to provide a compound of a single molecular species having excellent hole injection/transport property suitable for highly efficient and highly durable organic EL device and excellent amorphousness, and provide a highly efficient and highly durable organic EL device using the compound.
