A federated query is received at a federated database server. A federated query execution plan is generated based on the received federated query. The federated query execution plan defines one or more source servers of the federated database and a unique subquery to be executed on each of the source servers. The subqueries are distributed to the source servers in accordance with the federated query execution plan. The respective subqueries are executed asynchronously at the source servers. The subquery results are passed to a first designated source server defined in the federated query execution plan. The subquery results are joined and aggregated at the first designated source server into a final query result. The final query result is returned to the federated database server.

The n:th array element is selected as an initial pivot element. A smaller subset of array elements, including the pivot element, is iteratively selected until the smaller subset includes a predetermined number of array elements. In each iteration, an array element corresponding to the n:th array element in the smaller subset is searched for. Array elements are iteratively added onto the subset of array elements, until the number of array elements is equal to the number of array elements in the initial unsorted array.     • Various embodiments of a method, system and computer program product backup and recover a database. A database is distributed in a plurality of storage devices. A target designation designating a target database is received. One or more storage devices of the plurality of storage devices, storing at least a portion of the target database, are selected. A quiesce point is established by completing an ongoing transaction for the target database and inhibiting a further transaction. In response to establishing the quiesce point, a backup is generated by collectively copying data on each storage device of the one or more selected storage devices. The backup associated with a quiesce point indication indicating backed up data of the said each storage device of the one or more selected storage devices in accordance with the quiesce point, are recorded.
