    • A new cavity which is separate from a rf (radio frequency) accelerating cavity is provided on the orbit of charged particles in a ring-shaped accelerator, and an external oscillator and a coupled antenna which serve to excite a rf electromagnetic field in the separate cavity are provided. Using the external oscillator and the coupled antenna, a deflection mode which has electric field components in the direction of the central orbit of the charged particles and in which a magnetic field in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the central orbit develops on the central orbit of the charged particles is excited in a beam duct part of the separate cavity through which the charged particles pass. The resonant frequency of the deflection mode is set at integral times that of a fundamental rf mode in the rf accelerating cavity, and the phase relationship between the rf fields of the rf accelerating cavity and the separate cavity is so held that, when the rf electric field intensity of the rf accelerating cavity has a phase of zero, the rf magnetic field intensity of the separate cavity rises in phase.

    • In an electron beam accelerator of the type that electrons are guided into an equilibrium orbit through an inflector and radiant light is generated by accelerating the electrons on the equilibrium orbit, there is provided a drive section for moving the inflector in the directions perpendicular to the plane defined by the equilibrium orbit, and by making use of this drive section the inflector is made to retire from the radiant light. By making the inflector retire, radiant light can be derived also through the position of the inflector, and also, since the inflector is not irradiated by the radiant light, attention of the radiant light caused by lowering of a degree of vacuum can be prevented.

    • A superconducting synchrotron orbital radiation (SOR) apparatus having a plurality of deflecting electromagnets each comprising first and second superconducting coils which are immersed in liquid helium contained in helium tanks. The helium tanks are surrounded by nitrogen shields which are cooled by liquid nitrogen in nitrogen contained tanks. One of the helium tanks is equipped with a liquid helium supply port and a helium gas exhaust port. All of the other helium tanks are connected with this helium tank such that liquid helium which is supplied to this one helium tank automatically flows to the other helium tanks and such that helium gas from the other helium tanks automatically flows to this helium tank and is exhausted. One of the nitrogen tanks is equipped with a liquid nitrogen supply port and a nitrogen gas exhaust port, and all of the other nitrogen tanks are connected with this nitrogen tank so that liquid nitrogen which is supplied to this nitrogen tank automatically flows to the other nitrogen tanks, and nitrogen gas from the other nitrogen tanks automatically flows to this nitrogen tank and is exhausted.

    • Magnetic field-generating apparatus for an installation for accelerating electrically charged particles, the particle track of which comprises curved and straight sections, contains main magnetic field generating windings and at least one supplemental winding which is provided for focusing the particles on the particle track. It should be possible to accelerate relatively large particle streams to relatively high energy levels without the need for separate preaccelerators. In the region of at least one of the curved sections of the particle track the supplemental winding is designed as a conductor arrangement forming a quadrupole triplet for focusing the particles during their acceleration phase, the turns of the supplemental winding being arranged on both sides of the plane in which the particle track lies. In particular, a conductor arrangement forming a quadrupole triplet can be provided in both regions of the curved sections of the particle track wherein these conductor arrangements together form a double-telescope system for focusing the particles.
