    • A method for obtaining a precise intermediate frequency for a global positioning system (GPS) is applied in a GPS receiver having a radio frequency (RF) module. Using a satellite signal received by the RF module, ephemeris data of a satellite is completely obtained, and present coordinate of the GPS receiver is calculated. First coordinate of the satellite at first time point and second coordinate of the satellite at second time point are calculated using the ephemeris data. Then, traveling speed of the satellite and projection value of the traveling speed on position vector from the first coordinate to the present coordinate are calculated using the first time point, the first coordinate, the second time point, and the second coordinate. Finally, the precise intermediate frequency is calculated using the signal frequency, a carrier frequency of the satellite, the projection value, and velocity of light.

    • A wireless utility asset mapping device comprises a pole, a positioning receiver connected to the pole, a wireless modem connected to the positioning receiver and the pole, and at least one waterproof housing enclosing the positioning receiver and the wireless modem. The wireless modem is a long range wireless modem and has a range of at least 500 feet in low density and high density areas. The wireless utility asset mapping device may also comprise an external interface module, and external equipment in communication with the external interface module. A utility asset is located and the wireless utility asset mapping device is placed over the location of the utility asset. The coordinate of the wireless utility asset mapping device is determined and wirelessly transmitted over long distance in low density and high density areas.

    • Provided is a mobile satellite transceiver system for communicating with a Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite and a communications satellite. In on implementation, the mobile satellite transceiver system includes a GPS receiver configured to receive communications from the GPS satellite, a satellite modem configured to transmit and receive communications from the communications satellite, and an operating system. In some implementations, the operating system of the mobile satellite transceiver system is configured to send and receive text messages to/from the communications satellite via the satellite modem. In some implementations the mobile satellite transceiver system also includes a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) interrogator for communicating with RFID tags.
