    • Disclosed herein is a method for selecting one or more capsules in which to include a traffic channel assignment message. The method may involve: (a) receiving a request from an access terminal to engage in a communication session; (b) making a determination as to whether or not the communication session is of a type that is designated for priority service; and (c) using the determination of whether or not the requested communication session is of a type that is designated for priority service as a basis for selecting one or more capsules in which to include the traffic channel assignment message. According to an exemplary embodiment, for priority communications, the TCA message is sent in all sectors identified in a route update message from the access terminal, and for non-priority communication sessions, control channel occupancy and pilot-signal strength to select sectors for the TCA message.

    • A method, apparatus, and computer program for cooperative transmission are provided. A re-transmitter for a data packet determined as not having been received at a re-ceiver correctly is selected amongst the potentialre-transmitters in a cooperative transmission mode. In more detail, the re-transmitter is selected amongst an original transmitter of the data packet and assisting transmitters configured to assist transmission of the original transmit-ter. The assisting transmitters receive the data packet in the original transmission, unless errors occur in the reception at a given assisting transmitter, and are candidates for the retransmission in case the original transmission results in erroneous reception at the receiver.

    • SP recovery between communications of a source and destination apart from the PCP can occur by performing, prior to the initial frame response between a source and a destination, a back-off procedure using back-off parameters for SP recovery when the initiator of a SP cannot receive a responding frame from the destination and detects the communication medium being idle. In alternative embodiments the source and/or destination can send a notification frame to the PCP informing the PCP of transmission failure. When the PCP determines the communication medium to be idle, the PCP truncates and reallocates the remaining portion of the SP.
