    • The disclosure relates to a construction for a wrapped elongated structure, a method of manufacturing an apparatus to manufacture the wrapped elongated structure. The wrapped elongated structure has an elongated core. An adhesive tape having one adhesive surface is applied to the surface of the core along the length thereof with the adhesive surface facing away from the core. Tape wrapping is spirally wrapped around the core and the applied adhesive tape in order that each turn of the tape wrapping contacts the adhesive surface of the adhesive tape. The adhesive tape secures the tape wrapping in its spiral form with respect to the elongated core. The wrapped elongated structure may also structure may also included an elongated core, a first tape wrapping spirally wrapped around the core, an adhesive tape having two adhesive surfaces applied on the spiral first tape wrapping, and a second tape wrapping spirally wrapped around the adhesive tape. Each turn of the first tape wrapping contacts the first adhesive surface of the adhesive tape and each turn of the second tape wrapping contacts the second adhesive surface of the adhesive tape to maintain the wrappings in their spiral form with respect to one another and the core.

    • A high voltage insulator made up of a number of coaxially nested interlocking metal shell-like elements tapered from one end to the other, there being a layer of insulating material arranged between adjacent elements; the elements are each formed with corrugations that are uniformly spaced in the axial direction and have a radial extent greater that the thickness of the insulation, the externally convex portions of the corrugations increase in size from the smaller end to the larger and the externally concave portions correspondingly decrease in size; the thickness of the metal and the thickness of the insulation layer are substantially uniform where the elements overlap and the overlapping surfaces of each element are equi-distant at all places from the surface from any overlapped or overlapping element. The corrugations are annular or helical, in the latter case the elements being screwed together to constitute the insulator.

    • An integrally bonded composite structure of a substrate part or layer of metal or the like, an elastic interface layer, and a thermoset plastic wall or layer molded in place against it is formed by: (1) coating the substrate, as by spraying, with a thin coating of a thermosetting soluble elastomer, such as a chloroprene rubber (Neoprene), formulated to chemically bond to the substrate surface, and also containing a coupling agent which will react with the thermoset plastic layer during curing of the latter; (2) heating the coating to dry and stabilize the same on the substrate so as to withstand transfer flow of molding composition but without completely curing the coating composition; and (3) molding the plastic layer against the coated substrate under heat and pressure as in a heated molding die while the coating is in incompletely cured state, and thereby completing the curing of the coating as the molded plastic layer is cured and producing an integral chemical bond from the molded layer through the interface layer to the substrate. This gives an impervious seal between the substrate and the plastic and a bond with very high resistance to separation. The parts and the interface between them may be of either simple or complex shape.
