    • Potential energy of an implement and implement supporting member, such as a mechanical arm, attached to a machine, such as construction equipment, is recovered by an energy converter, such as a flywheel or a pull-cord generator, during relative movement between the implement supporting member and the machine. An activator causes relative movement between the implement and the machine. The flywheel or pull-cord generator drives an auxiliary pump or electric generator when the flywheel or pull-cord generator moves relative the auxiliary pump or electric generator. The recovered potential energy is stored in an accumulator or battery. Kinetic energy may be converted to electric energy or hydraulic pressure and stored for later use.

The circuits can also comprise charge multiplier circuit (300) configured to continue application of the electrical charge to the charge storage device (224) after the switch (262) has been turned off and/or after a point in time when magnitude of the voltage across the charge storage device (224) equals the magnitude of the voltage across the piezoelectric device (22).

    • A portable power source (10) includes a housing (12), a stator component (20), a rotor component (18), a crank assembly (14), and a control system (24). The stator component (20) is secured to the housing (12), the rotor component (18) rotates relative to the stator component (20) and the crank assembly (14) is coupled to the rotor component (18). The crank assembly (14) is rotated by the user relative to the housing (12). In one embodiment, the control system (24) controls the amount of torque required to rotate the crank assembly (14). For example, the amount of torque required to rotate the crank assembly (14) is varied according to the rotational position of the crank assembly (14).
