摘要： Systems and methods for error resilient transmission, rate control, and random access in video communication systems that use sealable video coding are provided. Error resilience is obtained by using information from low resolution layers to conceal or compensate loss of high resolution layer information. The same mechanism is used for rate control by selectively eliminating high resolution layer information from transmitted signals, which elimination can be compensated at the receiver using information from low resolution layers. Further, random access or switching between low and high resolutions is also achieved by using information from low resolution layers to compensate for high resolution spatial layer packets that may have not been received prior to the switching time.

摘要： In layered VDR coding, inter-layer residuals are quantized by a non-linear quantizer before being coded by a subsequent encoder. Several non-linear quantizers are presented. Such non-linear quantizers may be based on sigmoid-like transfer functions, controlled by one or more free parameters that control their mid-range slope. These functions may also depend on an offset, an output range parameter, and the maximum absolute value of the input data. The quantizer parameters can time-vary and are signaled to a layered decoder. Example non-linear quantizers described herein may be based on the mu-law function, a sigmoid function, and/or a Laplacian distribution.

As such, for all pictures with a certain value of DependencyID, the syntax element frame_num is coded independently of other pictures with different values of DependencyID. Within all pictures with a pre-determined value of DependencyID, a default frame_num coding method is used.

The invention therefore proposes representing HDR content using LDR content, LDR residual and global illumination data, instead. That is, it is proposed a method of encoding an HDR video of high dynamic range together with an LDR video, the LDR video providing a lower dynamic range depiction of the HDR video content, the method comprising using processing means for encoding one video of the LDR video and a further LDR video extracted from the HDR video independent from the other video of the LDR video and the HDR video and predictive encoding the other video using the one video as reference, and lossless encoding global illumination data further extracted from the HDR video. This has the advantage that prediction is more stable and globally optimal predictors are more easily found.

摘要： A video coder performs a motion-compensated prediction both in the base layer and in an enhancement layer to determine motion data of the enhancement layer by using the motion data from the base layer and/or to predict sequences of residual error pictures after the motion-compensated prediction in the enhancement layer by using sequences of residual error pictures from the base layer via an intermediate layer predictor. On the decoder side, an intermediate layer combiner is used for canceling this intermediate layer prediction. Thereby, the data rate is improved compared to scalability schemes without intermediate layer prediction with the same picture quality.
