    • An apparatus and method for increasing electrical clearances on power lines to increase the conductor to structure clearance and insulation length and the conductor clearance to ground and other underlying objects. The apparatus may be applied live-line and can be installed without significantly modifying existing support structure. A suspension insulator string extends vertically from the tower and a yoke plate is connected to the bottom thereof. First and second insulator strings extend outwardly in opposite directions from the yoke plate with a dead end strain clamp attached to an outer end of each insulator string. The dead end strain clamp of each insulator string, dead ends the electrical conductor forming an upgrade loop therebetween. A post insulator is rigidly mounted on the yoke plate and extends from the yoke plate to the conductor upgrade loop intermediate to the outer ends of the first and second insulator strings. The apparatus is installed by either re-using an existing vertical suspension insulator string from the support structure or replacing it with a similar insulator string, and mounting the apparatus of the present invention on this vertical insulator string. The conductor is tightened on one side of the tower and the dead end strain clamp of the first insulator string is clamped to the conductor, and the conductor is then tightened on the other side of the tower and the dead end strain clamp of the second insulator string is clamped to the conductor forming the conductor upgrade loop therebetween.

Switch and bus insulators are primary points of contact when a small animal crawls from a grounded, supporting structure across an insulator to an energized conductor. The present invention provides for a barrier on switch and bus insulators which prevents animals from coming into contact with a grounded structure and an energized conductor simultaneously, thus eliminating a ground path from the energized conductor through the animal to the grounded structure.

    • A cable clamp for holding a cable suspended from a support comprises a shell member having a mouth opening for the passage of the cable and first and second elongated inner abutment surfaces against which first and second portions of the cable received through the mouth opening are adapted to bear. The shell member also has a planar wall and a side opening defined by elongated walls which extend transversely to the planar base wall. A movable wedge is attached to the planar base wall for limited guided movement and retention within the shell member.     • An overhead line marking device that is installable from one end thereof. The marker device is formed from two bodies and when installed includes two identical hinge/retaining assemblies at each end. Each hinge/retaining assembly includes a lower support plate, at least one U-shaped retaining leg member and an extension tongue as part of the upper body. Prior to installation, the far hinge/retaining assembly will be performed by attaching at least one U-shaped leg member onto the support. This forms a retaining groove that can receive and in which the tongue extension can rotate. During installation the tongue extension will be inserted into the far hinge/retaining assembly, after the lower body is secured to the overhead line, and the near hinge/retaining assembly is then completed forming an enclosed marker device about the overhead line.

    • A high power high voltage transmission system consists of three highvoltage cables which are suspended from a transmission tower in insulated relationship with one another and with respect to the ground. Each of the cables is shown as a gas-insulated cable having a central high voltage conductor and an outer conductive housing which is insulated from the central conductor. The line-to-line voltage of the central conductors of each of the high voltage cables is 765 kV, while the potential between the outer conductive housings of each of the cables is 345 kV. The total right of way and height of the support tower is that needed for a conventional 345 kV transmission system even though the system is used to transmit 765 kV line-to-line voltage.
