    • According to an embodiment, an inserter for installing a medical device via rotation in a recipient is disclosed. The inserter includes a longitudinal member adapted to rotate around a member axis, the longitudinal member comprising a first end and a second end. A grip unit at the first end is provided. The grip unit is adapted to grip the medical device. A shank member proximal to the second end is also provided. The shank member is adapted to engage with a drive unit that is adapted to provide a rotational force to the longitudinal member such that the gripped medical device is rotated around the member axis. The inserter includes an indicator unit adapted to provide a visual indication of number of turns of the longitudinal member when driven by the drive unit.

    • A cochlear implant is disclosed in an embodiment. The implant includes a signal level detector configured to determine a total signal level of an incoming acoustic signal and a processing unit configured to determine, in accordance with the determined total signal level, an intermediate knee point for each of a plurality of frequency bands. The implant includes a bandpass filters configured to generate a plurality of band limited audio signals in dependence upon the incoming acoustic signal, each band limited acoustic signal representing an associated audio frequency range relating to at least one electrode of a plurality of an implanted electrode array of the cochlear implant. The implant includes a pulse controller configured to deliver electrical stimulation signals to the plurality of electrodes of the implanted electrode array based on the generated signals and the determined intermediate knee point corresponding to the frequency range.

    • The application relates to a hearing assistance device comprising an implantable part for electrically stimulating an auditory nerve of a user. The application further relates to a method of operating a hearing assistance device. The object of the present application is to improve the electrical stimulation of the cochlear nerve by a cochlear implant hearing assistance device. The problem is solved in that the implanted part comprises a) a current source generator; and b) an electrode array configured to be located inside one of the cochlear scala or adjacent to the auditory nerve. The hearing assistance device is configured to produce a time-varying waveform delivered by the current source generator, the time-varying waveform comprising a positively sloping positive pulse. This has the advantages of providing a smaller spatial spread of neurons being discharged by electric stimuli from a given electrode. The invention may e.g. be used in cochlear implant hearing assistance devices.

    • A drill guide for installing an implant in a blind hole in a bone under a soft tissue is disclosed. The drill guide includes a cylindrical portion that includes a cylindrical canal extending along a longitudinal axis of the cylindrical portion. The cylindrical canal is adapted to receive a drill member for drilling the blind hole in the bone. The drill guide further includes a flange at a proximal end section of the drill guide. The drill guide extends perpendicular or substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the cylindrical portion. The drill guide has a length that is equal or greater than thickness of the soft tissue. A distal end of the drill guide, when inserted in a hole, is adapted to rest against a bone surface that interfaces with the soft tissue.
