    • A flow sensor having an inlet and an outlet comprising: a plate moving in response to fluid flow therethrough, being displaced further as flow increases; a sensor for determining moving plate's position and creating an electronic signal related thereto; a biasing means for biasing the plate towards the sensor's inlet end. The sensor may include a sealing means for preventing flow therethrough until a specified differential pressure is reached allowing the device to be used as a bypass mechanism. The sealing means may also constitute a check valve means to prevent flow in an undesired direction. The check means comprises: a bullet rod adapted to be received within an orifice defined in a moving plate, such that the bullet rod prevents flow through the orifice until the moving plate is displaced past a terminal end of the bullet rod; and a plate means sealingly and slidingly received within a cylinder, which is closed for a portion of its length and open for another portion of its length, such that flow is prevented until the plate is displaced past the closed portion of the cylinder. The method using the sensor in multipurpose piping systems includes use of the apparatus in a system incorporating at least one fire sprinkler, the piping system also preferably providing at least one other use in the structure. The other use in the structure may be supplying domestic needs, or supplying heating/cooling water for a heating/air conditioning system.

    • A hot water tank monitoring system is designed to shut off the water supply to the hot water tank and to shut off either the electrical supply or the gas supply to the heating unit of the hot water tank in response to sensing of malfunction of one or more of a number of different sensed parameters. These parameters include a water leak detector located beneath the water tank, a water level float sensor, a temperature sensor to sense excess temperature, and a pressure sensor located in the line between the pressure relief valve and the blow-out outlet of the water tank. Signals from the various sensors are supplied to a controller, which provides signals to a LED status indicator, and also operates to provide alarm signals through a modem over telephone lines to remote locations and to operate an alarm.

    • A multi-tube differential pressure testing system for testing catalyst filled tubes of tube and shell type catalytic reactors having an upper tube sheet and multiple catalyst tubes having upper ends thereof fixed to the upper tube sheet. The system has at least one mobile support device for selective positioning on the upper tube sheet of a catalytic reactor. A plurality of testing tubes are mounted to the mobile support device and are selectively positionable in sealed gas pressure communicating engagement with the upper ends of a plurality of reactor tubes. A pressure testing gas delivery system is interconnected with the testing tubes and is adapted for communicating pressurized gas at a selected test pressure to the testing tubes and into the reactor tubes being engaged thereby. A differential pressure measurement system is provided in the testing system for measuring the back pressure resulting from application of gas pressure at the selected test pressure to the reactor tubes being tested and having a differential pressure indicator system providing a visual indication of the resulting back pressure of each reactor tube being tested.

    • The present invention relates to a measuring instrument installation on a process circuit capable of being subjected to a medium under high pressure, with a locking element between the measuring instrument and the process circuit. According to the invention the locking element is a ball valve 18 provided with a valve body as the ball housing and with a process circuit connection 2 and a measuring instrument connection 3. In addition a ball 7 which can be rotated back and forth between a pass position 6 and a lock position is installed in the ball housing, said ball being provided with a passage bore 8 that can be positioned in the pass position. Furthermore two ball seats 12, 13 pointing respectively in the direction of the process circuit connection 2 and of the measuring instrument connection 3 are provided, each being provided with a sliding sleeve 14, 15 spring-loaded and capable of sliding in the direction of the ball 7. Furthermore each sliding sleeve 14, 15 is connected to a sealing packing 19, 20 pressed in a ring-shaped manner against the ball 7, so that a ball space 25 which is not directly sealed off from the process circuit connection 2 and the measuring instrument connection 3 is constituted between the sealing packings 19, 20, whereby the ball housing 1 is provided in the area of the previously mentioned ball space 25 with a relief/bleed connection 26 with a connected actuated relief/bleed valve 27.

    • A water monitoring and control system adapted for residential and commercial use automatically shuts off the water supply after a predetermined period of time, whether the flow is intentional or unintentional, thereby preventing damage from leaks and other malfunctions. A pressure-responsive switch senses changes in water pressure and sends a signal in the event of a pressure drop, and a timer is provided to start a timing cycle when there is a demand for water, either intentional or unintentional, and shut-off the flow after a predetermined period of time selected by the user. The system also preferably incorporates a water demand indicator used to visually indicate water usage in the system, again, whether it is intentional or unintentional.

Still another improvement to a sensor having the base elements plus a sealing means comprises a second sealing means for preventing flow between an outer periphery of the moving plate and an inner surface of the sensor. A system for using these improved sensors in a plumbing system for flow detection and leak prevention.
