    • Disclosed is a sports training glasses for assisting a person training in a sporting endeavor requiring hand/eye coordination to focus on a specific object, such as a baseball or golf ball. The sports training glasses are comprised of a frame having a centrally disposed bridge. The bridge may be designed to rest directly on a wearer's nose, or to have engaged with it a nosepiece for resting on a wearer's nose. A pair of temple arms are articulated at either end of the frame by a flexible, integral hinge made of a shape memory material. A pair of opaque lenses are disposed along the lower edge of the frame, one opaque lens on either side of the bridge. An elongated slot, aligned horizontally, is disposed within each opaque lens. A sliding member engages with each opaque lens permitting horizontal translation behind the elongated slot. An aperture is disposed within the sliding member, within which may be disposed a transparent lens. A separate nosepiece may engage with the bridge to provide better comfort. The nosepiece is comprised of a soft elastomeric material having two lobes acutely conjoined at their upper ends, each lobe having a series of horizontal splines and a vertical tenon which engages with a vertical slot in the rear surface of the bridge.

    • A pair of eyeglasses is provided for sports training, and more specifically for training the player to keep the player's eyes on an approaching ball for batting or for swinging a racket. The pair of glasses, have a position adjustable pair of lenses each having an opaque peripheral region and a transparent central region. Initial adjustment of the lenses is achieved utilizing a removable cover element overlaying the transparent central region wherein the cover element has a viewing aperture. A method is provided wherein the player wears a pair of the glasses, adjusts the positions of the lenses to correspond to the positions of the pupillary disks of the player until the player can view a single focal element through each aperture, removing the cover elements from the lenses, and batting at a moving ball while wearing the eyeglasses.

    • A lens design consisting of a multi-component assembly, with one of the said components being a (decorative) hologram. The said assembly being comprised of an optical-quality holographic recording material coating applied to the inner or outer surface of a primary lens element, upon which a hologram may then be recorded in-situ, and may be used alone, or be optically contacted to a secondary lens element to form a unitary assembly of high optical quality and clarity, with the holographic recording material being encapsulated between the primary and secondary elements. The said lens assembly may be of simple or compound curvature, and be used in functional, prescription-quality eyewear of single or multi-lens type. Also, one or more of the lens components, other than the hologram, may function in a light-filtering role, so as to visually eliminate unwanted images or colors to the wearer, and further allow such lens assemblies to be used in sunglasses. In addition, the said lens assembly may contain multiple images on the holographic recording material, which are visible to an observer during different periods of daytime sunlight, or under various artificial lighting conditions.

    • The invention consists of an apparatus and method for creating high resolution, high contrast images to enhance the functional vision of visually impaired individuals. The apparatus includes an image scanning device, a digital image enhancement device and a high resolution monitor. Video images are enhanced in real time by converting an analog input signal to a digital output. The digital output is processed in a contrast selection device, stored in high speed memory, reformed into an output image and displayed on the high resolution monitor using high scan rates. The enhancement of images containing text substantially eliminates "grey" transitions between the text and the background to improve resolution. By increasing the contrast between the text and the background as well as user selectable enlargement and character spacing by magnifying or scaling of the digital video data, the functional vision of visually impaired individuals is improved.
