    • In systems and methods for reducing network traffic generated by a plurality of wireless devices operating over a communication network, an indication is received at an access node when a plurality of wireless devices assigned to a subscriber operate simultaneously as active wireless devices over a communication network. A priority list of the active wireless devices arranged according to the highest priority based on operating parameters of the active wireless devices is compiled. One of the active wireless devices is selected as a wireless host device based on the active wireless devices based upon the compiled priority list. Channel state data received from the active wireless devices at the access node is correlated to determine whether the active wireless devices and the wireless host device are in close proximity with each other. A wireless connection is established between the wireless host device and the active wireless devices, that are found to be in close proximity of wireless host device.

    • A communication link is established between a first wireless device and a communication network using a network communication protocol when it is determined at the first wireless device that a communication link with an access node is not detected. The first wireless device transmits an indication that the first wireless device can provide wireless communications to a second wireless device using a cellular radio access technology. In response to a communication channel request from the second wireless device, the first wireless device grants a communication channel to the second wireless device, and the second wireless device is assigned a network address. A request is received at the first wireless device to establish a communication session for the second wireless device over the communication network, and the communication session is established by the wireless device for the second wireless device over the communication network.

    • Systems and methods of managing uneven data flow in a wireless communication system are provided. A network node can receive a load parameter of an access node. The network node can receive a measurement gap criteria of a wireless device in communication with the access node. The network node can receive a traffic characteristic associated with the wireless device. The network node can calculate an anticipated data burst based on the load parameter, the measurement gap criteria, and the traffic characteristic. The network node can determine an adjustment measurement gap criteria for the access node based on the anticipated data burst. The adjusted measurement gap criteria can be transmitted from the network node to the wireless device.

    • A paging message is received and determined to be an alert message intended for a tracking area. Numbers of wireless devices comprising an active connection over a first channel and over a second channel in the tracking area are determined. A number of wireless devices which will respond to the alert message over the first channel and the second channel is determined based on the number of wireless devices comprising an active connection the access node on the first and second channels and a total number of connections in the tracking area. At least one wireless device comprising an active connection over the first channel is instructed to communicate over the second channel before the alert message is sent to the tracking area based on the estimated number of wireless device which will respond to the alert message over the first channel and the second channel.
