    • A toggle switch includes a toggle lever with a spherical portion that is held against a partially spherical surface by a retaining ring or a pin to permit the toggle lever to swivel. A coil spring coaxial with the toggle lever and enclosing a portion of the lever forces a plunger against an actuator that rocks to place a blade in contact with a terminal to operate the switch. Terminals are molded into the case of the switch to maintain the terminals in a desired position. The actuator may be shaped in one of several ways to provide maintained contact, momentary contact, or a combination of these. Electrical contacts are formed by placing spherical balls or similar shapes made of a contact material into holes in the terminals and then forming the balls or other shapes to produce a contact surface.

    • A process of hot pressing of materials to form articles or compacts is characterized by the steps: (A) providing a compactable particulate mixture; (B) uniaxially pressing the particles without heating to provide article or compact (22); (C) placing at least one article or compact (22) in an open pan (31) having an insertable frame (32) with edge surfaces (34) that are not significantly pressure deformable, where the inside side surfaces of the frame are parallel to the central axis B--B of the open pan, and where each article or compact is surrounded by fine particles of a separating material; (D) evacuating air from the container and sealing the articles or compacts inside the container by means of top lid (36); (E) hot pressing the compacts at a pressure from 352.5 kg/cm.sup.2 to 3,172 kg/cm.sup.2 to provide simultaneous hot pressing and densification of the articles or compacts; (F) gradually cooling and releasing the pressure; and, (G) separating the articles or compacts from the container, where there is no heating of the compacts in the process before step (E).

    • In a contact arrangement for high breaking capacity relays having a center contact spring movable between two cooperating fixed contact elements characterized by the contact spring having a contact member secured on each of the two opposite surfaces facing the fixed contact elements with one of the two contact members being of a larger size than the other contact member and the width of the contact spring to form a projection to which a flexible copper lead can be directly secured. As a result thereof, the switched current in a changeover contact can be conducted with low-loss across the center contact spring without an expensive center contact spring of a material which has a good conductivity being required.

    • An electrical switch construction and method of making the same are provided, the construction comprising a housing, a pair of electrical switching units carried by the housing, and a condition responsive actuator carried by the housing and being operatively associated with the units to serially operate the units as the sensed condition respectively reaches two different predetermined conditions. The actuator comprises an axially movable plunger for operating one of the units and a snap disc for operating the other of the units when snapped overcenter, the actuator having a spring operatively associated with the plunger and the snap disc to move the snap disc overcenter when the plunger is moved to a certain axial position thereof by the actuator sensing one of the conditions. The actuator has a tubular member telescopically disposed on the plunger and operatively interconnecting the snap disc to the other unit when the snap disc is snapped overcenter.
