    • An apparatus for an antenna system comprising one or more blades for splitting the electromagnetic field received by an antenna into a plurality of sections corresponding to separate beams and redirecting said plurality of sections for detection by a plurality of detectors. The apparatus may comprise a plurality of blades for splitting the field into successively smaller and smaller portions. The plurality of detectors can be positioned outside the focal region of the antenna system. The apparatus may further comprise focusing means for focusing the sections of the field onto another blade or a detector. There is also provided an antenna system comprising a plurality of feed horns for producing a plurality of beams; and a plurality of elements for redirecting said beams towards a focal region of the antenna system so as to form a group of closely packed beams for transmission by the antenna system.

    • A communications system including an antenna array and electronics assembly that may be mounted on and in a vehicle. The communication system may generally comprise an external subassembly that is mounted on an exterior surface of the vehicle, and an internal subassembly that is located within the vehicle, the external and internal subassemblies being communicatively coupled to one another. The external subassembly may comprise the antenna array as well as mounting equipment and steering actuators to move the antenna array in azimuth, elevation and polarization (for example, to track a satellite or other signal source). The internal subassembly may comprise most of the electronics associated with the communication system.

    • In one embodiment, a meander slot antenna includes a conducting sheet having a meander slot defined therein. The meander slot has a closed area defined by the conducting sheet. An electrical microstrip feed line crosses the meander slot. The electrical microstrip feed line and meander slot provide a magnetically coupled LC resonance element. A dielectric material has at least one conductive via therein. The at least one conductive via electrically connects the electrical microstrip feed line and the conducting sheet at a side of the meander slot. The dielectric material otherwise separates the conducting sheet from the electrical microstrip feed line. Other embodiments are also disclosed.

    • A wideband biconical antenna arrangement is disclosed having a feed arrangement that services a second antenna positioned above the biconical antenna. The feed for the second antenna is configured as a helix that spirals around an outer periphery of the upper and lower cones of the biconical antenna along the biconical antenna's cylindrical radiating aperture. In one embodiment, the feed is a coaxial cable disposed within a hollow metal tube. This helix feed does not substantially degrade the performance of the wideband biconical antenna. The wideband biconical antenna has its feed disposed within a central conduit of the biconical antenna. The biconical antenna has at least one octave of bandwidth, and in one embodiment the second antenna also has at least one octave of bandwidth.
